Simple answer to Flik's decision.

He wanted to travel and see more of the world. He's found friends outside the warrior village, and he still missess Odessa. No point returning to the warrior's village and stay there for the rest of his life where it could possibly be like friggin boring for him. Travelling is much more fun to him obviously. I mean, it's like he had no NEED to return to the village. He didn't need proof that he's a warrior. From his skills, it's obvious enough.

For Hix, he's gonna be the chief's son in law, and he's weak minded. He needed the recognition. Flik didn't. And if you compare with your theory of becoming a hairdresser after your family are all priests and you're almost a priest, it won't work either because like i said, Flik had no need to finish his journey. He had no obligations to do that. But if you family are all priests, you have the need and obligation to become one.
