The question that started this thread was "Why can't I drink until I'm 21 but I can vote and kill for my country at 18?" And this really just brings up the larger question that is "What does it mean to be an adult?"

And I have no idea. I think by the time you can think for yourself, solve problems, and are aware of consequences you should be able to apply for "adulthood" (as if it were some special gov't document). Because maturity varies from person to person. I think I was pretty grown up at 17, but some 25-year-olds have the mentality of 13-year-olds (and, oddly enough, these are probably the same ones who behave reckless with drugs, alcohol, and sex).

I'm at 20, and if I decided to drink, I would know how to drink responsibly. In fact, my family even has a tradition on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve where we all get rum and coke and hang out together--I have to say those are 2 of the best days of the year for me as well. But if I wanted to just have a few drinks on a relaxing evening at home, I could be arrested if I got any liquor in my possession.

Another thing is how old some kids LOOK these days. Some 13 year old kids are already 6'1 and still filling out! 13 year olds with beards! These kids could easily pass off as 21 year olds, and no clerk would say "boo". Meanwhile, I still look 16 and probably will for the next 3 years, and I'm likely going to get carded until I'm 40!!

i say the draft is dumb if you want to fight then fine by me i wouldn't probably care . i wouldn't want to go to a draft and hopefully wont have to go . hopefully there will be no wars while i'm 18 thru 20 something.
the only way i'd be in a draft is if i had magical powers ( wich sadly might never happen :cry: ) i'd be invincible , but i wouldn't kill anyone i'd just merley knock them out. if it were only more like suikoden.

its sad to see people around my age smoking , smoking is EVIL!!!!! every time i smell it while walking through my school i say i smell EVIL!!!!! and cover my nose , too bad no one can get rid of such evil cause then the air would smell better!!!
