There are no .hack movies. Just an OVA series (Liminality, that came bundled with the games), an anime series (SIGN), and the videogames, and some graphic novels that are just getting to the US. (And now the new OVA/Anime/game series). They've continued to put things out despite poor perfomance.

Sonic died because the Saturn didn't sell well, the Dreamcast didn't sell wel, and by that time, the Sonic generation had grown up and lost interest and Sega never advertised the new Sonic games as much as they did when I was little. (There was a sonic comic book! And a cartoon! Hell, there was Sonic bubblegum! It came in a wee gamegear mockup, with trivia cards!) Perhaps they do more now, but I remember being surprised at finding a new sonic game in the stores a while ago.

I still mourn the loss of the fast-as-you-can action game, though; I hate the boring collection ones like Mario. Let me run! Let me zoom, fast fast fast! Let me fly! But don't slow me down by making me collect a bunch of stars/music notes/etc. I havewn't got time for that!

However, both the Dreamcast and the Saturn were EXCELLENT platforms, quality-wise. Lots of really good games on both.

Another reason why Suikoden will not likely be affected by its sales is the fact that Konami makes more money than Square-Enix. Konami isn't just a video-game developer/distributor; they sell sporting goods and run health spas/gyms as well as provide software for casinos throught the world, in fact they have exclusive rights to sell casino-related software in more than a dozen states in the USA (that's a major source of their revenue). Konami loses most of their money in their sports/health related sector, but their strategy is, "the investment will pay off some day." Thus, they make enough money to not care if a major project isn't making enough money, let alone a small insignificant project (from the scope of Konami) such as Suikoden.

It's probably a pride thing as well. Every major video-game company in Japan (Capcom, Namco, etc) have their flagship RPG titles, and all Konami has is Suikoden. Their attempts to cultivate other RPG titles have been unsuccessful. Couple that with the fact that RPGs generally don't retain value as well as other genres (people in Japan usually sell RPGs after they finish it, while they are more likely to hold onto racing/action/sports/puzzle games), it's doubtful that Konami will drop their only RPG series that has made it to #5.

That's a relief. Suikoden is the only video game series that I look forward to. If there's no suikoden VI, I won't even buy a ps3.

while we are on the topic of suikoden sales numbers, dose anyone have any links with facts about how many copies of each game was sold in North America?

If I had to guess the order would be IV>V>II>tactics>III>Suikoden in terms of most copies sold/in circulation, I was always told that II was the most limited but I don't think I ever saw any proof to back that up. Yeah II sells really expensive on ebay but unless there is something carved in stone about its production numbers, I'd have a hard time believing that it was made/sold less than the pretty limited release of tactics which are sold almost only in game stores with each store only got less than 5 copies; and don't forget III, although reprinted, it at one time was limited enough to be worth about as much if not more than II.

Quote:

Suikoden V sold about 170,000 in Japan maybe a few thousand more by now.

Is every gamer in Japan pretty much a fan of RPGs? I know that number is still about 1/10 of the final fantasy sales, but that's more than likely about 3-5 times the suikoden sales here.
Quote:

Yeah games and movies in Japan are hella expensive...It's sickening

but if everything sells so expensive and yet so many copies, what do people there do when they finish playing a game? hold on to it while everything is almost worthless? Over here you have idiots that knows nothing about the sport yet they'd fork over money to buy madden or nba live and it would sell millions of copies, while very few good rpgs sells well. What would be the case over there? are there ever any good games that's low print or rare like suikoden is over here?

I'm just curious, does anyone have any updates on the April sales figure?
