Simple question about Ernst [spoiler]

Is the rune he bears the same beast rune from suikoden 1 or 2 (didn't play either so I don't know the exact game it's in)?

that would be bob from suikoden 2. and bob's rune was called the rabbid fang rune i believe, so i think they are both different but do the same thing.

It's different in that the rabid fang rune allows Bob to stay in human form, and otherwise he becomes a werewolf. In the case of Ernst, he is cursed to take the form of a cheetah (and he isn't a were-cheeta either, he simply turns into a four-legged animal versus how Bob was a were-wolf who can walk on two legs) and can only stay human for a very short amount of time or on days that are full moon.

It is not the True Beast Rune. Why they left the name the same, however, I don't know. Perhaps the Beast Rune from II is really called the True Beast Rune (although the artbook labeled them both as just Beast).

In the Japanese version, the rune is written with the character for Beast, Magic, and Rune. So the US version left out the "magic" part. Quite confusing.

If you look at the images of the True Beast Rune from SII and then the rune that Ernst has, you'll see that they look very similar but are distinct enough to tell that they are different. Ernst's rune is probably a derivative of the True Beast Rune. I just found it strange that they called them both the same thing.

Yeah, Levi mentions that the rune seems to be a child rune of the Beast Rune.

Ernist is a cheetah? they called him a leopard. thats one chunky robust cheetah!. so the Beast rune is "true beast rune" or..magic beast rune? I've only met Ernist during his math-wiz show. wow, I wonder if he can do long division.

it's ernst ;). but his rune is just called the beast rune. which is a cursed rune from what norma and levi said. but like sars says levi says it's a chile of the true beast rune from suikoden 2. i won't spoil any thing else since later in the game you'll learn a little bit more about him and his rune.
