This is a thread dedicated to translating the beginning of Suikoden 5. Melange is the only person who is allowed to post here. Any comments can be posted at the "site has been updated" thread. This is to ensure an organized topic as well as to limit spoilers in the other thread.

Well I tried translating the 1st page (click the 1st button on the very button or go to http://www.konami.jp/mailmag/special/main01.html). I reused the lines that reappear from the trailer that SARs had translated earlier... I doubt I did as well as he would do with the rest tho.. anyways.. as I'm not sure whether it would constitute as spoilers or not.. I'll put the text in black...
<Name> is the name the player chooses for the Prince... and I left in the honorific '-sama'. The name of the ship I have no idea so I just translated it phonetically. Edit: Ship name has been put in.
START
A single ship crossing the Faytus River captures the camera's attention.
It is the gorgeously decorated royal ship "Khorshed".
The girl standing at the prow informed the prince with a smile,
Girl: Prince <name>! We can see Sol Falena!
Lured by the voice the party looked ahead. Far away Sol Falena could be seen.
Woman: Whether to say that we finally came back or that we just happened to return... its a complex feeling...
Knight: Yes it is...
Woman: Lyon, don't you feel like a bit of the weight on your shoulders have been lifted?
Lyon: Oh, Sialeeds-sama
Lyon: I never once thought of guarding the prince as a weight on my shoulders. Whether its during the trip or returning to the capital, I will continue to protect the prince with all my might!
Knight: Guarding and babysitting is different. It's not laudable to be overprotective, you know?
Lyon: Even Georg-sama...
Lyon: That's fine! Because I'm at my happiest when the prince is happy!
Sialeeds: Aaah, isn't my nephew the luckiest guy!
Georg: Absolutely! Right, <name>?
An embarassed looking Prince and Lyon. But, immediately Lyon informed Georg.
Lyon: Ah, Georg-sama!
Georg: Hm?
Lyon: When we get back to Sol Falena you have to change the way you speak. Addressing people without ceremony is particularly not good!
Sialeeds: Yes yes! Even though I'm like this, I'm still the Queen's sister you know.
Sialeeds: Its better you not use language unfitting of my station. Mr Georg Prime of the Queen's Knights?
Georg: Stop that, its disgusting...
Sialeeds: You really are a uncouth man aren't you?
Lyon: Well, I think thats more like Georg-sama so... Its okay among us but... it'll be bad if the Queen hears that a Queen's Knight addressed the Prince without ceremony... and the position of Ferid-sama who recommended Georg-sama as a Queen's Knight will also...
Georg: No need to worry. I'm used to working in a court. I'll do it properly.
Georg: But its a bit troublesome. I thought the Queendom of Falena would be a bit more magnanimous.
Sialeeds: I think we're already quite magnanimous for letting an uncouth person like you become a knight.
Sialeeds: Well, Elder Sister is now much more frightening than I am. Its better not to make her angry.
Sialeeds: Oh... We're about to arrive.
Everyone directed their view in front. The Khorshed was nearing the dock of Sol Falena. From the rear of the ship the captains voice rang out.
Captain: Coming alongside the quay!
A bluish light along the waterline rushed from the stern to the prow. The Kuwarusheedo slowed down.
On the pier, a reception party could be seen.
Georg: I'm a newcomer so I probably don't understand but this is a pretty paltry reception for the Prince and the Queen's sister.
Sialeeds: Can't help it, in Falena, males can't inherit the throne. As for me, well, its a similar situation.
The Prince looked down. Seeing him like this, Lyon glanced at him with concern. The Prince quickly looked up and smiled at her. Relieved, Lyon smiled back at him.
The Khorshed is docking at the port of Sol Falena.

The Prince and party enter the Audience Room from the Great Hall of the Sun Palace. Arshtat, who had been seated on her throne, arose with her face full of smiles.
Arshtat: Ah... I've been waiting for you! My son!
Arshtat: Come, come over here! Let me see your face!
Arshtat approaches.
Prince: Your highness, I have returned.
(There are two choices here, the other is "Mother, I've come home.")
Arshtat: Well, what's with the formality! It's alright to call me mother, you know?
Arshtat: Though as a mother I'm also proud of your dignified manner.
Arshtat: Sialeeds, I have placed a burden on you.
Arshtat: Because you went with my son, I was able to keep from worrying too much.
Sialeeds: It was no burden at all. Because to me he's also my beloved nephew.
Arshtat: Huhuhu (laughing)
Arshtat: You've done well too Georg. But I guess for you it was an probably unfulfilling role.
Georg: No... To protect the Royal Family is the duty of a Queen's Knight.
Arshtat: And Lyon.
Lyon: Y...Yes!!
Arshtat: You've really done well as my son's guard.
Arshtat: The day you'll rise to become a regular Queen's Knight isn't very far right?
Lyon: N... No!
Lyon: I am aware that to be given the duty of guarding the Prince while still an apprentice is a great honor!

The scene changes from the Audience Hall to a flashback of Lordlake. The party remains standing at the entrance of the town.
Lyon: T... This is... Lordlake?
Georg: This was the town famed for the beauty of its forests and lake in the Queendom of Falena... wasn't it? I heard it met with substantial hardships but... Is this... really the place?
Sialeeds: Ah... there's no doubt about it. This is... the town that was called the emerald pride of Falena... Lordlake.
Old man: You've come a long way.
Old man: I am Targeiyu, I've been the something like the acting representative after the passing of the lord.
Targeiyu: I would like to say 'allow me to guide you around', but this town needs no guiding. As you can see there is nothing besides the parched earth and tired peasants.
Targeiyu: The townpeople may commit disrespect but please forgive them.
Targeiyu: If you wish to punish someone, please punish me.

Townsman: .. Since you've come here, take a goood look.)

George: This... isn't a road... is it?
Sialeeds: No, not unless they sail down roads here.
Lyon: This used to be a canal... filled with beautiful, sparkling water...
George: So it means... the water dried up so fast they had no time to even move their boats.

Lyon: This is terrible...
Sialeeds: That it used to be magnificent makes what it is now horrible....
Georg: This is?
Sialeeds: The mansion of the Lovelle clan, the lord of this area... or used to be.
Georg: Ah... I have heard of that name... If I'm not mistaken... the entire clan was executed...
Prince: Enough. Lets return...
(The other choice is "Lets go inside")
Sialeeds: I wish we could do that but...
Sialeeds: We have a duty to see the condition of this town with our own eyes. You and I... as members of the Royal Family.

The Truth of Lordlake
After party went to the back of the Lovelle mansion, a dry, cracked land met their eyes.
Lyon: !?
Georg: This is worse than I heard...
Lyon: This place... used to be a lake...
Lyon: The water was sparklingly beautiful... that you could even see the fish at the bottom... There were lots of water birds...
Lyon: Over there used to be a thick forest... Because the last time we were here we were still children, we so wanted to explore... but when the Prince and I tried to go together, the people of the entourage stopped us saying it was forbidden...
Lyon: After that we were scolded by Ferid-sama.
Lyon: He said, "Can't you have gone in a way so that you wouldn't be found out?!"
Sialeeds: That's so like him.
Lyon: Lord Lovelle also said the same and laughed...
Lyon: ...then how... how could this... have happened...
Sialeeds: This town... touched upon my sister's wrath...
Georg: ... Is there something happening?
Lyon: I wonder what's going on?
Sialeeds: It seems pretty panicked. Lets go take a look.

Sialeeds: What's going on?
Lyon: Did something happen?
Gesh: ...This doesn't concern the Prince at all...
Targeiyu: Shush!
Targeiyu: A child has... gone to the spring in the forest and hasn't returned. Even though I've strictly said not to go near there since that place is the territory of beasts...
Gesh: He was pestered by the younger kids that they wanted to drink clean water...
Gesh: I'm going to look anyway! Don't stop me, old man!!
Targeiyu: No! The beasts are irritated. Even you will be in danger!
Gesh: Then what? Are you saying we should leave Toma to die?
Targeiyu: That's not what I'm saying!
Lyon: Prince. Could you wait here? I'll go search.
Gesh: Haaa!?
Prince: No, you can't.

Lyon: Eh...?
Sialeeds: That won't do, Lyon. Cause you're this boy's guard. If you go, we go together. Isn't that so?
Gesh: I said this doesn't concern the Prince at all!!
Sialeeds: Don't be foolish! When a child's life is at stake it doesn't matter if you're a Prince or not!
Georg: We are more used to fighting than anyone in this town. I think we can handle this.
Targeiyu: I... I see. Thank you....
Gesh: Che...

Wandering around looking for Toma in the rotting forest.
(Lyon: I'm worried about the child who went in the forest!)

Kid: Who's fault do you think it is that Lordlake became like this!?
Kid: Those ulse just now! It's because they can't find enough food with the forest like this that they attack people!!
Kid: There's no way of telling how many have been killed!

Lyon: Your majesty...!
Prince: Mother! Why!?

Arshtat: Isn't it obvious its because those people have committed a crime thats worthy of that punishment?
Arshtat: The Lovelle clan of Lordlake have been the most loyal of the nobility for generations...
Arshtat: Its because I thought so that I trusted them from the heart and favored them...
Arshtat: Then that day two years ago! Those people betrayed me in the worst manner!!
Arshtat: They gathered conspirators and used violence to plunge the country into confusion!
Arshtat: Not only that they violated the grounds of the East Detached Palace and even stole the Dawn Rune...
Arshtat: They took one of the three runes that symbolize the Falena Royal House!
Arshtat: What lawlessness, what treachery! What villainy! There's no way they could be forgiven!
Arshtat: Because of that I, Arshtat, Queen of Falena myself, delivered heavenly punishment to them!
Arshtat: With this! With the power of the Sun Rune!!
Light flooded out from the Queen's forehead.
Arshtat: No matter how the people of that place suffer it is what they rightly deserve...
Lyon stepped forward desperately.
Lyon: I... I beg your pardon your majesty!! It is right for you to be angry but...
Lyon: At Lordlake even those women, children and elderly who have no connection to the uprising are suffering!
Prince: That's right, mother!!

Arshtat: Be silent!! Are you saying that I'm mistaken!?
Arshtat: It is impossible that I am wrong! Because the Sun Rune always blesses those who are right!!
Arshtat: My path is the true path! My will is the heaven's will!! To draw swords on me is the same as drawing swords on the Sun!!
Ferid: Your majesty!!!
With a face looking like she just recovered from being possessed, Arshtat turns back towards Ferid's voice.
Arshtat: Ah.... Ferid...?
Ferid's gentle voice resounded in the audience hall.
Ferid: Your majesty. Everyone is tired from their long journey.
Arshtat: Y... yes... That's true...
Arshtat: I'll listen to... your detailed report another time...
Arshtat: You may leave now to rest...
And so began the disturbance that used Falena as a stage...
