I got my fingers on the PAL Version of Suikoden Tactics yesterday.
As a german Suikoden Fan i have to say, that the translation is pretty good.
In my eyes, it's the best (german) Translation of a Suikoden Games i've ever seen.
I can't say much to the other languages on the disc, but when the german version is as good as it looks like now (currently i'm arriving el-eal) the others may be of the same quality.
Just wanted to say that..the translation discussion in the suiko V foroum motivated me to say something about this game...and it's translation

Thats great to hear. It really does seem that they are really paying attention to translation now.

Japanese.. as a german fan it's interesting..
Until now there are only "german" version of Suikoden 2,4 and Tactics.
The Translation of 2 sucked..there were so much wrong lines, names and there were parts where they forgot to translate...so they left some scenes were you could see french text and mistakes like that..
The Translation of 4 was pretty good.. just like you said..they showed that they're interested in improving the translation..
the translation of tactics is perfect. They even took away the True Holy Rune Bogus... and called it True Godspeed Rune..didn't saw the german name for it til now..but be sure it would be funny to hear and read for you...hehehe

Next time, they may just get rid of the "True" part and call it the Godspeed Rune.

| Well well, very glad to hear they did a good job for the PAL version. Maybe the PAL version of Suikoden 5 will be good as well then! |

Yes, very nice to hear, but... where did you get a PAL copy Tactics? Two and a half weeks early?

It better be, making us wait a half a year... damn KoE... well it's better than not releasing it all.. damn KoE...

I got it from someone who got his fingers on it a week ago..
I have to say that it is a "copy" of the game..so it illegal but i have the Suikoden Tactics NTSC Version Original and will buy the Original Suikoden Tactics PAL Version too as soon as it is released.
A rather funny thing happend when i've played the Suikoden Tactics US Version on my pal ps2. i configured the ps2 system language and set it on german..and as i started suiko tactics us, most of the system menu and items where translated into german..yeah..really curious..
I have to say something more about german translations of the suiko games.. something i've just realised now.
While in Suikoden 2 the names of cities and locations had their english names, like Green Hill and South Window in Suikoden 4 and Tactics the names are translated.
For example..these are a few translations of the city names of suiko 2 in german:
Greenhill --> Grüner Hügel
South Window --> Südliches Fenster
North Window --> Nördliches Fenster
Highland --> Hochland
Lakewest --> See West
In german these names sound absolut silly..so i gues that was the reason for not translating them in suikoden 2.
In Suikoden 4 and Tactics they have translated some of the names..
For example
Middleport --> Mitthafen
I know that for english fans it must be funny to to have a island called middleport.. it's the same effect when you listen to music, bands wich are using foreign languages are more interesting than bands with your own language.. personally i can't imagine how it would like if i hear some brutal death metal band and they were singing in my language..it would be funny..
hmm i will not wait a half year for playing suiko 5, i will import the us ntsc
version of it, just like i did with suiko 3,4 and tactics. They should only optimize the us version to run on pal systems and TVs and release it in english...but this is typical konami of europe style...
so..i hope i've not made this many mistakes in grammar and spelling..i'm very tired and didn't come to sleep last night. |
