Whenever I click on the AIM buttons in people's profiles I get a windows pop up saying AIM is not a registered Protocol. What exactly does this mean and why does this come up?

My best guess is you've disabled the AIM ability in our profiles but its still reflected on those buttons? Thats my guess, but I might be way wrong. At any road I just wanted to let you know thats happeneing and wondered what was up with it.

When I clicked on your AIM button just now the AIM window popped up for me to talk to you. I use AOL as an internet browser and such have AIM so that may have something to do with it. I'll try using Internet Explorer to do it but I have the feeling I'm going to have the same result. Okay so I didn't have the same result, it took me to the Page Cannot be Displayed page. So perhaps you just have to be using AOL for it to work. In either case I didn't get the page you described and don't know what your talking about.

This is due to the "aim:" protocol being a non-universal protocol. Protocols tell browers what they're supposed to do. "http:" is a protocl, as well as "ftp:".

Each browser has a file that tells the browser what protocol they should understand. These files can get messed up if you updated your browser or your AIM version because every time you update stuff, hundreds of files get changed, and some paths might not get connected properly. It's also possible that some sort of adware or spyware may have changed the protocol file for your browser.

Basically, this isn't an error that can happen because of the forum's setting.
