Stars you ignored/neglected in S4..now party mainstays?

I'm just wondering, who were some of the characters you hated, disliked or just did not find useful from Suikoden 4 that you now find yourself often putting into your Suikoden tactics party?

Trishtan is a good example for me. Never gave him a second thought in S4 but I don't know what I'd do without him in Tactics. Same for Karl and Kika.

Ever since I got Karl on that mission saving those kids he's been a permanent member of my main party. I don't know what I would do without him, seriously. Kika is another character I've come to really appreciate in Suikoden Tactics. The other ones that have a their place close to my heart are Millay, who even was one of the last stars I ever recruited and even then I didn't pay almost any attention to her, and now has become a semi important character for me in Tactics. I think the reason for this is primarily because they let you use a much larger quantity of characters per battle, which may make some people consider many different characters, especially early in the game when maybe you don't have as many story characters as later in the game.

I never really choose charaters based on how "good" they are I always just used my favorites and work on them. I love using Lazlo because his rune of punishment comes in real handy. Kikia is assome but I also find Simone and (that other princess...ugh I forget her name.) to be very helpful with there water rune.

Karl is a good melee fighter, but he's kinda slow and doesn' make very much damage if you compare him to other 1st class melee's, like Kyril and Kika. His Cross-Counter is great, though.

Tristhan is one of the first tanks you'd find in the game. Pretty useful for rding Kangacorns until you get Busk and Ornela.

Maxine is a good mage.

But my favorite goes to Mitsuba, since she's got the smash skill, can do criticals, and really kicks arse! Plus, she's kind of like Estella... nice body, but a so-so/horrid(for Estella) face. Just don't notice much of her ccharacter art. Her chameleon rune's kind of a gamble though.

Strangely, one of the A-Team in my SuikoIV game eally gets lowered down as a D-Class unit. Who? King of The Island Nations himself, Lino En Kuldes. He's too slow and doesn't do much damage here. And there are far more better Kangacorn Riders than he is.

In Suiko 4. I NEVER used Rita..but now on tactics She is always one of the members I have in every battle.

Heh, Karl is actually one of my heaviest hitters. He's probably behind Kyril in raw attack power(not counting the runes). And his white lion rune is really useful, as it has a good balance of support and attack. Rita was very useful, especially in the earlier parts of th game. Her smash skill is certainly pretty good.

Another one I forgot to mention before was Maxine. She is a pretty good mage with her fire rune. The only shame about her is that she's a bit frail. If I remember correctly, she has a pretty good evade stat, but I'm not really sure if she gets the Avoid skill, which would help a lot. Trishtan is very useful as well, but as someone said before, he's even better mounting a Kangacorn.

I use Millay a lot now too. She's rare in that she's a one-handed sword user that can equip shields.

I use Snowe a heck of a lot more too. He was a lot weaker in Suikoden 4 than he should have been, but in Suikoden Tactics he's good. His high point is his Skill, which gets very high very quickly and allows for high MP and accuracy.

Sigurd is a lot better too. His attacks cause more damage when compared to other characters than they did in the previous game and he seems to have higher survivability.

Reinhold! For some reason he can now equip heavy armor. I don't remember him being able to do this before.

And of course, Karl. For the same reasons everyone else has given.

But what about the flipside? Characters that were really good in Suikoden 4 but now are really bad?

Someone mentioned Lino, and I agree. He's just too slow to consider using in a game where Speed is more important than Attack.

Pablo was never a good mage to begin with, but he was still useful in Suikoden 4. The Earth Rune in Suikoden Tactics is so limited in usefullness that chances are he'll always be at a low level. Out of all the mages in the game he has proven to be the weakest.

I say that the worst transitions of characters happen with characters that were originally fighter-mages. Ameria and Wendel for example. In Suikoden 4 they had lower attack power than other fighters, but they had higher magic attack power and runic affinities to compensate. Now they can't even use elemental runes. Wendel used to be one of the best characters in Suikoden 4, but now she's just a weaker Mizuki, and Ameria is outclassed by almost every other one-handed sword user. Somehow Millay, Rita, Flare, and others managed to avoid getting affected by this transition.

Let's see...no, I think my Suikoden Tactics party was pretty much a carbon copy of my Suikoden 4 party, insofar as Stars available in Tactics, with the addition of a few characters unique to Tactics that I started using. My final parties in Suikoden 4 were:

So, I was unable to use Ted in Suikoden Tactics. I didn't much care for mages in general in Tactics, so I didn't bother using Jeane either, however...I used Kika and Lazlo for most of the game, as well as Mizuki, and I started using Kate as soon as I got her. Same for Paula. My party vs. the final boss in Suikoden Tactics was...

Sigurd (who I used for a large part of Suikoden IV, but failed to make it into my final parties, because I was really gunning for my heaviest hitters at that point)

...So I guess the only change was Sigurd. I think he was a bit better in Suikoden Tactics, and I'm pretty much certain I know why. Quite simply, the Eagle Rune is awesome. Combined with standing on his native elemental tile, using Clairvoyance, he was easily one of my best warriors. He had a pretty decent physical defense in Tactics, and once I gave him some cool extra equipment, he turned into a monster.

I do agree with everyone who's mentioned Lino's dubious ability in Tactics. He's slower than Ornela, and doesn't hit much (if at all) harder. I stole his Unicorn Rune and gave it to her...she was the only spear-user I ever really felt compelled to use...I guess I just liked her as a character.

Kika is one. I like her a lot, but she ended up in the Ship parties during Suikoden 4. In Tactics, she's pretty much part of the main group.

Trishtan is one too. Not good enough for me to use in Suikoden IV, but one of the early favorites in Tactics. This goes for Rita, who surprised me with how strong she can be with that hammer.

As for everyone else, I've either used them or still never bothered.

but Millay is for me. I never even think about using her back in s4 ... but now ... shes just too strong to be forgotten

I really really am resisting leaving Ameria behind in ST... She was a mainstay in my party in GS4 and an awesome all rounder, but in Tactics she loses everything... She lacks a sheild but has a 1H sword, okay movement/defense and NO GOODWILL :( I think she will soon be overshadowed by the more useful party members - she has been good for one thing however - though she doesn't specialise in anything which is bad in a tactics game, she has pretty high stats across the board for her level, this makes her awesome at dispatch missions! I may mount her on a Kangacorn instead of Millay since Millay has an awesome parry stat and sheild blocks she cant use mounted.

Mizuki... well I havent' got her far enough to be untouchable, and at the moment she takes waay too much damage plus her rune isn't great at lvl 1.

Kika is the only survivor of both games ( region issues so i cant get Lazlo ), but judging by my username you might have guessed that anyway ^_^

I will agree, that the main issue some chars weren't used in IV, was because of the 4 character limit.

Tristan, Kika and Paula I use quite often in tactics, and only used them briefly in IV.
Eugene is my hero though, I use him all the time, and never touched him in IV. I always wanted to in IV, but just never got around to it.

I had Selma in my backup party for IV, just because I wanted the Sigurd/Hervey/Helmut combo as my main party. If I'd been able to use six characters as usual though, she would have been in my main IV party. As soon as I got her in tactics she was a permanent members for my party though.

I'm in new game + right now, I've heard good work about Mizuki so I've been using her. Her evade is awesome, go Mizuki!

I still wish Helmut had made the transition from IV to tactics though, I would also have main teamed him.

Sigurd and Hervey were main members in IV, and I kept them through to tactics. In IV I used Sigurd as a water mage half of the time, due to his affinity with the element. I couldn't in tactics, and picked up Simeon as a healer anyway so it was no issue. His long range attack is aweome though. As Parallax mentioned, the eagle rune is godsend ^^

All the way through IV, I wanted to get rid of Lazlo, I just couldn't connect to him. In tactics he's a main member of my party most of the time though, ironic. To think it's by choice this time. It's not even for his rune, I never play for power characters anyway. I actually like him in tactics, go Lazlo for some personality!

Lately I'm finding Yu extremely useful. In SIV, he was as useless as they come. But in Tactics, his Heal command is a rea; lifesaver. For those who haven't used him, Heal is kinda like a spell that completely recovers an ally. This may not sound too good, but the really great part id that he's got this unbelievably large range(it increases with his Heal skill). He is not that durable in battle, but with that range, he doesn't need to. I haven't used Carrie yet, but I'm guessing her First Aid(or whatever it's called) is prettty similar.

I'm using Jeremy a lot, and in suiko 4 I never used him. Another one is Tristhan he is really good too since he can ride a kangacorn.

The ones I never use are Hervey and Sigurd, but in Suikoden 4 they were in the last battle against the Tree. I don't know maybe when I play Tactics again I will have they in my party. I do this sometimes, you know, finish a game multiple times with different members in the party.
