I was just thinking Dunan in S2 had a lot of really corrupt officials in it's past I mean you have Anabelle's father Darrel poisoned Genkaku's sword because he wanted to win so badly then he casts Genkaku out when he refuses to use his sword then you have Alec Wisemail and Gorudo who poisoned Lucia's father and ended up killing him then Gorudo sells out his alliance with Dunan just to save his own ass it just makes you think that their country was built on lies and had terrible leaders
Any oppinions on this matter would be great |

That's a good point yet I think just about every nation whether real or in a game is built upon lies that most people are oblivious too. It has something to do with the leaders of nations thinking they need to keep the people under control. Why do you think so many wars are fought in the first place? _________________

Well in my experience with just wars in like the real world are usually always fought over religion and beliefs the wars in Suikoden are usually just fought out of people seeking more land and who want more power |

The whole Genkaku thing with that other guy seems like something that would make a pretty good side game to the Suikoden series for those people who want to hear all the small details to the game. I mean Suikoden 2 is currently peoples current favorite Suikoden game isnt it? Thus they could take the risk and could make a great action adventure game out of it. Maybe for the PSP. _________________

You know, the corruption in the State is what drives the story, and they mention that on several ocassions. It's the whole reason why Jowy sided with Highland, and the reason why the not-so-corrupt leaders adopted a republican system rather than an alliance. |

An alliance was a bad idea to begin with. The nation(not really a nation) is carved up between people who just want more and more. _________________

Most people in positions of power tend to abuse it so Joweston's leaders are really no different from any of the other kingdoms in the Suikoden or real world. _________________ Winne the Pooh>YOU |

I would agree on most what was said and would like to add that it's purpose is only a mere way to show us that as there are bad people in the past there are also good people who will come after them to redo the wrong deeds of what was done at that time.
As mentioned by you there are some people whom I wouldn't like to call evil but would prefer to call guilty for making some mistakes (my opinion), since they were in a position of making some crimes that only made them build there countries on lies (your opinion), which I wouldn't agree on it that much because if it was really based on mere lies it wouldn't survive till this time and would exceed before the time suikoden 2.
Therefore in my opinion the whole concept of countries build on lies is somewhat a false one because as we have seen there is always good people who fill in the place of the guilty ones and the examples for that are Annabelle, Teresa and Miklotov or Camus in place of Darrel, Alec Wisemail and Gorudo, but another thing I wouldn't deny that there are semi-bad people who come from good people (Luca × Agares) or good people who come from other good people (Lucia × Kianu) so it is not necessary to be as I said before.
Anyway, that is what I think about the whole thing. _________________

It's not just Dunan. Zexen has some very corrupt officials that are/were leading the merchant guild. They were taking bribes, and trying to take over Budehuc castle in an attempt to win favour with Harmonia.
Harmonia itself has been seen to have a reel of coruption, from the 1st Class Citizens and the Howling Voice Guild.
Scarlett Moon Empire was rife with corruption and greed. The generals who weren't under control, turned a blind eye, and the other army officials were after whatever they could get. _________________

I would think that it's a recurring theme in Suikoden that corruption has to be replaced with order.
Also remember that if the countries involved weren't corrupt, they would probably not fall as easily (SME, Dunan, etc).
Honestly, if Gorudo didn't abandon you in the battle for Muse, things could've been very different. _________________

If I recall correctly, Suikoden III may currently be the only game in the series where there wasn't a change in political power. Neither the Zexen Confederacy nor the Grasslands were overthrown, as Luc wasn't interested in any of that. _________________

Man, they need a democracy or something, so they can impeach these guys, instead of going through entire wars to sort it out. Maybe it's because they're all men.

The Grasslands would probably fall to both Zexen Council and Harmonia, if the Fire Bringer didn't come together. Sure that ensured the Six, err, Five Clans to continue surviving. |
