Well tonight, I'm going to the new "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." I'm personally a little excited to go see it. I read the book ofcoarse and seen the old version of the movie and I thought both were fairly good. However I was told this one is supposed to follow book the more, and it's also a little more of a darker version of the story. Directed by Tim Burten I think and Johnny Depp playing Willy Wonka I wouldn't doubt that haha...
I don't know I guess everyones takes on this movie, I know people become very scpetical about remakes of some types of movies. However I think this one might be better do to current movie technology, and probally a better budget. However the Oompa Loompa's did look sorta creepy :/

I read somthing in the paper, the person who wrote the book was unhappy with the orginal movie. I never read the book myself but did enjoy the film, it had songs, thats cool.

I don't know how much I like the casting of Depp as Wonka. I mean, Johnny Depp is cute as all get out, but...He looks too young for the part (yes I'm aware he's in his 40's but the man just does not look it, and the previews seem to play him as a fey playboy, not an eccentric old recluse. Wrong way to play it. i'll still probably go see it though, if only for the pretty! Johnny Depp (even if the costuming department should be SHOT ON SIGHT - purple velvet?!) and possibly funniness. And dare I hope that they've retained the musical numbers? *crosses fingers*

I saw the original on TV a while ago, it had a unique feeling to it a movie I suggest as novelty, another wrong remake in my eyes, as Sophita said Deep does not look old enough and is clearly aimed for the new market to be a faithful representation of the original film, I didn't even know if there was a book about it until now but I suddenly have the urge for chocolate...

Saw it this mornng, and I liked it alot.
Spoiler in black

The end is very close to the book, with them see the other children leaving. I also liked how they went into Willy's past.
Edit: Put the word spoiler, and made it black. I really did put anything specific. If you read the book you already know how it ends. I mean the book came out in what 1964. I don't know anyone that hasn't either saw the original movie, or read the book. So everyone KNOWS what happens to the kids.

Thank you for that you just SPOILED my a** off, but it was going to happen anyway...

The only reason to go to watch a movie in the cinemas for me is to avoid spoilers like these, oh well ces't la vie as the French say...

And now that I think about it I don't really care in the case of this particular movie, but if you liked it, it might not be as bad as I thought...

I really should get my self some chocolate now

i'd really like to watch it. even if Johnny D looks bizzare in it. i liked the movie, i'm sure i read the book years and years ago. years ago... I'm old like that!

but yeah, the original film, i have a love-hate relationship with. depends on my mood. but one thing i'll always like about the original is that it made way for Futurama and Family guy to make reference to the oompa loompa song (fry and the slurm factory, and Peter and the Partucket Patriot factory, the latter being funniest). oh, yeah, what i mean is how it's "so referencable" and most all people will get the joke.

The music is also pretty good in this. Danny Elfman, the person I call, [bold]I do all music man[/bold], did a very good job.

I just don't think Johnny Depp makes a good Willy Wonka. Wonka will always and forever be Gene Wilder for me. Depp just looks creepy as wonka. I mean, Wilder as Wonka was creepy too, especially when they were going through that tunnel in the boat, but Depp as Wonka just looks Michael Jackson creepy.

As long as they don't make a remake of Young Frankenstein, i'm happy.

I will probably go see it in the theatre if i have time. I don't think it was a bad idea to remake the movie, but i have heard a lot of mixed reviews. Most of the bad ones were a knock against Depp, but they were happy about how the movie went into wonka's past. I am looking foreward to that.

Well, I'm of the opinion that Johnny Depp can play just about any role imaginable. Even a woman (I know, not a real stretch). I do agree that he appears a tad odd and bizarre here, but I think that's because of Burton's direction and not Depp himself.

Burton is obviously aiming for a different feel than the original, which explains the very different Wonkas. I don't think there will be a definitively better version, just two different films that are able to stand on their own. I mean Burton really isn't going for a remake of the film- the difference in title will tell you that.

Who came up with the idea to remake the movie. The original movie was a timeless classic in my opinion. I saw the ad for it on imdb. Jonny Depp almost looks like he's reprising his role as Edward Scissorhands. The new Wonka certainly looks a little more sinister and a little less eccentric than Gene Wilder's character.

Yes, I just got back from seeing it a hour ago!! I liked it.. I feel a little twisted now, but everyone seemed to make it out alive. Wow, what a creepy movie. I liked it though because I enjoy twisted humor. I thought Depp played a fairly good role as Willy Wonka. I mean he's supposed to play a creepy and weird role, and he matched the ticket well. And I think they added in the Ompa loompa's songs as twisted flash back to the horror from the last movie. Over all, I really liked it. I suggest seeing it. However I can see how alot of people could critize it because it's "not the same". However they kept most of all of the same elements. I give it a 4 out of 5.

I'll probably see this movie, but it looks kinda creepy to me. I loved the book and the original movie, but this new movie is scary. I really don't like their choice for Wonka. And the children seem to young to me. Maybe it's just my opinion.

I do not think that I will watch this movie because it will probably ruin my fond childhood memories of the original movie. It just looks to sinister and evil to me.
