Oops, I guess the permissions is sort of messed up. Phpbb3 has some strange quirks that I don't quite understand when it comes to forum higherarchy, which made the whole process really head-ache inducing. I'm also discovering that transferring posts back to a phpbb2 environment might not be as simple as I thought. |

Based on taking a closer look at our database, it seems like we have all the old stuff still in there without any real changaes made to the architecture. Thus, it'd probably be best to just plug phpbb2 into the current location. It may even be better to simply upload the most recent suikox modification of phpbb2 and start working from there, which would be strange.
Based on thinking things through, here's my current vision on the new game:
1) Focused on the Dunan region including Highland: Characters will be born in one of the towns automatically, but are generally free to roam around. I'll get rid of the whole "nationality" feature. Moving from one city / town to another will take RL time. This doesn't mean other parts of the world won't exist, but I haven't really thought of how the rest of the world wiull figure into the game yet.
2) Less battle and focused on "immersion": Instead of killing each other, the aim is to give people how it feels like to live in the Suikoden world. Each person can have their own goals, such as becoming a rich merchant, a famous adademic, or being a spiky-haired dual sword-wielding travelling swordsman with a angtsy past that we all want to be. Location will have a huge influence because you won't have much luck pursuing your academic dream if you're in Toto all your life, nor will you have buch luck being a trader if you don't move around.
3) User-initiated cooperation: Instead of having a system where you're tossed into a group who you have to work with even if you hate them, you can form your own clique as you please. If you're a trader, you might want to hire a body guard before traveling afar lest you get jumped by some bandit or monster. You might form your own leather worker's guild in Muse, or perhaps you'll be boring and uncreative by forming a mercenary group.
4) Skill system: I'm borrowing the idea from Eve Online, where you get to train you skill based on elapsed time. For exampls, the skill "Diplomacy" might take only 30 minutes to take to proficiency level 1, but will take 4 hours for level 2, etc. To be an expert diplomat you might have to stop trying to be a powerful swordsman. This also means yoyu may need to make friends to accomplish some sort of goal.
5) Periodic GM-initiated events: The GM (me) will periodically cause some sort of event (mostly calamities) to make life interesting for the players.
Here's sort of how things can play out:
I'm a character based on Kyaro, and have my "Foraging" skill trained to level 3. I decide to move my character to the Rood Forest and forage stuff I can sell. Moving from Kyaro to Rood takes 2 hours RL time, so I submit that command and do other stuff for two hours. After getting to Rood I command my character to start foraging and go to sleep. With Foraging level 3, my character is already at maximum carrying capacity with a collection of 423 holly berries, 118 medical herbs, 26 nightshades, and 3 logs (or something). You take this back to Kyaro (another two hours) and put it on the market there. Another character who's looking for logs to make spears from will buy the logs, and you end up making money.
I have special ideas for Greenhill (academy) and Muse (center of politics), but I haven't really thought of it in detail, so any ideas are welcome. |

Oh no way, unless I can automate stuff I won't be implementing it. Thus, it'd be more like pushing buttons.
I should be able to make that sort of interface based on what I was able to do in the last game. |

Sounds different, I like, now I can get that cave I always wanted by slaughtering the harpiess to uncover the obvious rich veins of silver on Mt Rakutei and build me an automated robot of fiery death! After I kidnap Adlai of course.
Is Highland going to be fleshed out though? I mean it was only 2 towns in the western released games, would make for a pretty poor starting location in such a concept if it remained at that I would think. _________________
