The Tennis Master's Cup is a year end championship that comprises of the 8 highest scoring players in the yearly ranking (the RACE). The 8 players are split off into two groups and the two groups play a round robin against the other players in their group. So, while the 8 players are selected, the groups are not, so we'll have to wait to make our predictions. I just thought I'd get the thread set up and filled in with the qualifying players.

** Rafael Nadal dropped out due to a slight knee injury and fatigue in preparing for the Davis Cup Finals.

1. Roger Federer (SUI)
2. Novak Djokovic (SRB)
3. Andy Murray (GBR)
4. Nikolay Davydenko (RUS)
5. Andy Roddick (USA)
6. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)
7. Juan Martin del Potro (ARG)
8. Gilles Simon (FRA)

The Master's already started, Gilly (Federer lost his game vs Gilly Simon). Should we start the game at Round 2?

Oh my, I totally forgot about it, since it's played in a Round Robin sort of format wouldn't we need to make predictions for all the matchups? Let me go take a look.

Okay, so the scoring will be done in sheer number of corrected guesses, since this is a round robin. So, the person with the most correct predictions in the end wins. Each correct prediction is 1 point.

Here's the Round 1 matchups for the round robin: (the ones with the slashes through them have already been played)

Roger Federer v. Andy Murray
Roger Federer v. Andy Roddick
Roger Federer v. Gilles Simon
Andy Murray v. Andy Roddick
Andy Murray v. Gilles Simon
Andy Roddick v. Gilles Simon

Novak Djokovicv. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Novak Djokovic v. Nikolay Davydenko
Novak Djokovic v. Juan Martin del Potro
Nikolay Davydenko v. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Nikolay Davydenko v. Juan Martin del Potro [/color]
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga v. Juan Martin del Potro

My predictions:

Roger Federer v. Andy Murray
Roger Federer v. Andy Roddick
Roger Federer v. Gilles Simon
Andy Murray v. Andy Roddick
Andy Murray v. Gilles Simon
Andy Roddick v. Gilles Simon

ovak Djokovic v. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Novak Djokovic v. Nikolay Davydenko
Novak Djokovic v. Juan Martin del Potro
Nikolay Davydenko v. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Nikolay Davydenko v. Juan Martin del Potro
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga v. Juan Martin del Potro

I'm surprised that you don't predict that Roger wins vs Murray. ^__^

Andy Roddick withdrew from the tournament and was replaced with first alternate, Radek Stepanek. So, our predictions with Andy Roddick will just be discounted.

The results of the past two days are as follows:

Gilles Simon def. Roger Federer
Roger Federer def. Radek Stepanek
Andy Murray def. Andy Roddick [Radek Stepanek]
Andy Murray def. Gilles Simon
--
Novak Djokovic def. N. Davydenko
N. Djokovic def. J.M. del Potro
J.M. del Potro def. J.W. Tsonga
N. Davydenko def. J.W. Tsonga

So, Tsonga and Stepanek are basically out, and Federer, del Potro, Simon, and Davydenko are borderline. Murray and Djokovic are through to the semi final round for sure. We'll see Friday the complete semifinal lineup.

I hope that Murray doesn't give his next match away since he's already through.

Roger would not only have to beat Murray, but also hope that Simon loses. if they both have 2-2 records in the first round I'm not sure what would happen, actually.

arrg, I got the day wrong because of the time different, Gaby. They've just played the semifinals. Nikolay Davydenko defeated Andy Murray, and Novak Djokovic defeated Gilles Simon.

Final:
Novak Djokovic v. Nikolay Davydenko

Other results (for scoring purposes)
(8)G Simon (FRA) d (9)R Stepanek (CZE)
(3)A Murray (GBR) d (1)R Federer (SUI)
--
(6)J Tsonga (FRA) d (2)N Djokovic (SRB)
(4)N Davydenko (RUS) d (7)J Del Potro (ARG)

Scores:

Gilly: 3
Gaby: 4

The final will be worth 2 points, just so we don't have a tie in the end.

---

My prediction:
Novak Djokovic v. Nikolay Davydenko

Kind of the obvious choice, really. :(

Yes, very obvious. I doubt that Davydenko can beat Djoko.

Novak Djokovic - Nikolay Davydenko.

I missed the results too due to the time difference. I hope we can follow the results better during the Australian Open.
