Another victory for the great Cthulhu.
Really, I would never have guessed that something like that would make its way into Suikoden. _________________

I'm impressed at both the editorial and the fact that they didn't even give the translator a chance to play the game or get any background info.
No more war system means more editorials? yay! :o _________________ DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! |

Very interesting read. :)
I wonder why they did not let the translator and his team play the game...... |

I suppose the "no" sound in the middle is rendered insignificant now? Perfect.
When the translators know too little about the series, we get this.
When the translators know too much about the series, we get Childerich.
I like where this is going. |

Did you purposely leave out the Japanese, forgot to add it or is my computer just not displaying it, dude?
EDIT: For those wondering...
ルルイエ - R'Lyeh
ルルノイエ - L'Renouille
It's certainly plausible at the least. _________________ One day, I shall come back. Yes, we shall all come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. |

Ah, the Japanese characters were showing for me earlier, not now though. |

I was wondering about that. I got ..... as the pronunciation. Heh.
Anyways, most righteous editorial! So the question is.. When did this epiphany about the possible etymology of the name happen, since it states you had talked with the lead translator almost a year ago? _________________ Be awed by our prowess!

I don't really lend much credence to the Lovecraft undertones theory, for the series as a whole. To have Murayama, Kawano and Sakiyama (for this, fishmen and Alhazred) be huge enough Lovecraft fans to throw all these references in is a bit of a stretch.
Although it wouldn't surprise me, Suikoden II was always the worst localised game. _________________ One day, I shall come back. Yes, we shall all come back. Wow... I just posted this in the Suikoden forum and someone magically made this into an editorial... amazing.
Oh yeah, and the all of the dots connected about two months ago when I was reading a bunch of Cthulhu stuff. I was reading some Japanese site on Cthulhu and found out how they spelled R'Lyeh, and I was sort of shocked. Cthulhu references were sort of here and there in Suikoden to begin with, so I thought that this might be a likely hypothesis. |

Was it really that long ago since we talked to him..? My, my, how time flies when you're wasting it. _________________ Prejudice is a great timesaver. It enables you to form opinions without bothering to get facts. |

It's probably earlier than a year, but my memory is sort of a blur. I can probably hunt down the e-mail and find out when exactly we had that discussion with him. |

I'm not sure that the exact time when you spoke to the guy matters exactly, it doesnt' affect the integrity of the information or anything.
Nice work and its good to know the reason why there was a french city name in the middle of Highland. _________________
