[Need Help with my HW] Take this survey about break ups.

I have a homework for college. We were asked to make a survey of how people would react, cope, or adjust to a break up in a relationship. Here's a list of question i hope you can all answer. It's simple enough, so please try and answer them honestly.

A. 16-18 years old
B. 19 years old and above
C. Younger than 16 years old

How would you cope after a break up?
(you can add explanations if you want. It would help as well)

A. Act like nothing ever happened, but feel bad.
B. Forgive and Forget
C. Go emo all day (up to even a year)
D. Avoid person like the plague
E. Violently break things in my room
F. Cry uncontrollably on a friend's shoulder
G. Combinations? (Which ones?)

In extreme cases It'd probably be
C. Go emo all day (up to even a year)
But rather then feel emo I'd probably feel distanced/mindless all day instead if you know what I mean..sort of a "I can't believe that happened" sort of deal I guess...

I guess in the case that it was a short amount of time or I myself thought the breakup was unavoidable sooner or later...It would probably be
A. Act like nothing ever happened, but feel bad.

Well that would depend on the situation.

If my girlfriend cheated on me i would pick; H. Others (specify) Which would essentially be me dumping here like a wet snot and leaving her for good. Yeah i would be hurt, but not for long.

If she dumped me i would pick: A. Act like nothing ever happened, but feel bad. And i would move on with my life as soon as possible.

I'm quite good at avoiding people, I even do it when there's no reason to. I'm not the kind of person to cry my eyes out, or destroy things. The only closest other thing I'd do is feel bad, but no.

It normally depends ont he seriousness, but I will just go and assume it was a serious relationship. I normally ignore the person for some amount of time, totally blowing off whatever their reasons or defenses are. If I do speak to them, it isn't nice. I make them feel bad, because I convince myself it will somehow raise my spirits. If they are persistent, I am slowly broken down into believing they were honest. I've never been broken up with cause of anythign serious. Distance, too busy compared to too much free time (Me with free time) or other trivial obstacles. Eventually, I either get back to being friends with them, or cut them out of my life. And not to seem like a bad guy, I normally just become friends with occasional benefits. Hope this helped.

Those are how I deal with just about everything in life. It would be one or the other, depending on specifics of the relationship and the breakup.

I honestly cannot give an entirely honest opinion to you, because I've only been in one true relationship thus far and I really don't see us breaking it off any time soon. But in general, I act like nothing happened in public and in front of my friends, and at home randomly throw things around while listening to music, then settle down and fall asleep.... >_>;;;

That's how I currently cope with it afterwards. I might feel bad about it, it might even hurt.. but I don't like to show that I'm hurt and so no one ever sees that side of me. Heck, I don't even like to acknowledge that I'm hurt (even to myself).

The worst breakup I've ever had though, I was crying uncontrollably the day after. I couldn't help but be depressed, every day for half a year. That was my first relationship though, so I was young and naive and all that jazz.

OK. I tend to be the person in the relationship who is the least emotionally attatched, and I'm also the one who usually does the breaking off. So...I feel guilty for hurting them, but I don't really feel bad for myself, per se. So I avoid them because I am embarrassed and I don't want to cause them anymore pain than they are already feeling. Does that make any sense?
THe worst situation I had like this was when I broke off my engagement. I was really distressed, but mostly because of the fact that I could have made such a blunder as to want to marry this guy in the first place (there is also the fact that I thought I loved him when I didn't, which wouldn;t have been fair to either of us.. I was disappointed in myself and my own judgement rather than being emotionally broken up about the relationship. I have yet to have one that actually really means something to me.

And I don't mean just avoid them like a normal person would, I tend to refuse to acknowledge their existence. When I break up with someone, I have no desire to get back together with them ever again, so why should I pretend like I care that they're around? If I see them out and about, I won't make eye contact. If they try talking to me, I won't acknowledge that they said a word. Completely ignore them would be a better way of putting it, since I won't go out of my way to avoid them. So, maybe saying Others would have been more appropriate.
