|

Ok, so I started a new game of Suikoden II recently, and am at the part where you flee to Coronet to get a boat to Kuskus, right after Jowy leaves. I decided to do the whole Matilda glitch at this point, and went through the quest to recruit Humphrey and Futch. I had them in my party when I had to take Rina, Eilie, and Bolgan to cross the lake in Tai Ho's boat. I had to kick someone out of the party to make room, and I kicked out Nanami.
Now, when I try to go to the screen where Tai Ho's house is to get on the boat, the game freezes and will not load that screen. I have heard that doing the Matilda glitch may make the game freeze, but I have done it several times before and have been fine.
My thoughts are that because I kicked Nanami out of the party the game will not continue because maybe she is needed for following scenes? If anyone has encountered anything similar to this I would like to here your theories. I have loaded the game several times and it always freezes in the same spot, during the transition phase between the two screens. _________________ "Into battle we ride

Yeah, Nanami is needed at that scene, and because she has been kicked out, you won't be able to go on with the game. This happens when you do the Matilda Trick during the whole Muse escape sequence. When doing the Matilda Trick, it's usually a good idea to make sure you don't attempt an event outside Matilda while you have Futch and Humphrey because they're not supposed to be there, and early events tend to have pretty tight restrictions on who should/shouldn't be in the party. |

Like Vex said, Nanami is apart of the scripted Scene, meaning if she's not in the party, then there's no way the scene can happen, so the game glitches.
To help save a headache for you in the future, there's another glitchy spot if you have Futch in your party when you go to Greenhill for the first time. When you're talking with Emelia and the people in your party answer. When Futch answers three things can happy, he'll answer normally, he'll answer with a bunch of weird text, or the game will freeze. It rarely freezes for me when using my PS2, but when I use my older PSOne it does.
It can also Freeze when you fight Neclord in the unbeatable battle at Northwindow. I always pick the retreat choice to stop that though. _________________ Be awed by our prowess!

Like Milan said, Futch and Humphery shouldn't be taken on any quests or missions before you are allowed into Matilda.

This makes me think that each character has a set age and gender in their ID which the game queries to show you a selection to choose from. |

There were several exceptions where I could take Humphrey and Futch the last time I did the Matilda Trick. I could take Futch to Greenhill when you infiltrate it. I took Futch with, and he spoke in symbols, but, otherwise, everything worked out. I went to Matilda during the time when you go to Muse for Pilika. I had Riou, Nanami, Jowy, and Shiro in my party. I didn't BEAT the quest for Humphrey and Futch until after I got the Bright Shield and Black Sword runes, because it's much easier that way. I didn't have any problems, really. _________________ ard says:

I have another question, regarding the freezing. In Tinto and Crom, during the events when Neclord had his appearance in our mining town. When Riou awakes, it can happen that the whole game goes slow-motion. It won't change, so I had to restart it... It may be happening, because I played it on a copy of my original game, which I lend someone... _________________

That has never happened to me Eden, plus by the time you get to Tinto you have already been to Matilda - meaning that it is OK to bring Futch and Humphery. I'd place my money on it being your backup copy. |

it is because of his backup copy. most copies of games don't work right. plus i've read some stuff a while back that there was problem with playing suikoden 2 on a burned disc. _________________

Okay, thanks. I wasn't really sure if that happened at my original cd or not. I would have said yes, but wouldn't have sworn ;) Well, I am sure that it hasn't anythingto do with Humphrey and Futch, but it almost freezed my game. It was still playable, but not enjoyable  _________________

That's happened to be before actually. A few times. It happened once in Muse, after Jowy got back from the Highland Camp. It slows down to where it can barely move. It happened one time when waking up in Riou's room as well. But I found as long as you have patience and move towards the door, as soon as you open a door or move to the next screen, it all goes back to normal. _________________ Be awed by our prowess!

Oh thank you. I had never this patience and just restarted the whole game... Since I am one of those who safe a hundred times in each game (2000 time in TES: Oblivion, but there my game dies so very often), I am not very botheres by this. It is just a little bit annoying. _________________

It's for this very reason that I usually keep a minimum of two or three saves on any game, in the event that I need to backtrack to a specific point in the game to avoid having to restart. I never enounted any glitches, I wonder if these glitches (the ones that are dependent on chance) are likewise present in ROMs, If playing on a PS1 or PS2 can make a difference, hm...anyone know? _________________

I experienced this freezing or better slo-mo both with the original cd and a (legal) copy and on my PS1 as well as on my PS2... _________________
