Well I finally got to see this nasty shot. For those of you in the world that don't follow hockey, this is kind of like Zidane with a piece of wood.

Simon got a 25 game suspension but I don't think that's harsh enough. That was obviously an intent to injure. This guy has had problems with his temper in the past and I think he really needs to get a hold on it before he's allowed to play again. However, some people think that 25 games (including playoffs) is too harsh a penalty. What do you guys think?

He would've been given more if his attempt to swing for the fences with his hockey stick had injured Hollweg. That's the only reason that kept Colin Campbell from giving more than 25 games. As much as this will hurt his pocketbook temporarily it probably won't stop the Islanders from keeping him or another team from picking him up if he's let go.

The NHL will always have its enforcers, but I think a lifetime ban for enforcers using their hockey stick or any other personal equipment as a weapon should be implemented. On a more eye for an eye bent if a player uses a weapon to attack another then said player should get a free shot with his own, or if they're injured then a designated player gets the free shot.

Really, if they wish to truly crack down on vero-the-line enforcing or even just plain old stupid, violent retaliations then start filing criminal charges on the aggressor.

Doesn't the NFL have some kind of "intent to injure" rule which automatically invokes a lengthy, perhaps even season-ending suspension? The NHL could really use a regulation like that as well, rather than taking absolutely everything on a case-by-case basis. Sooner or later someone is going to die out there.

Just a bit of trivia: this incident with Simon occured right on the third anniversary of Bertuzzi's hit on Steve Moore. Go figure, huh?
