Since 96 when i first heard the intro i always pronounced it as "sue-code-en" a year or two ago i was corrected, but i dont give a flying fudge I have been calling it that for 8 years and i am not going to stop referring to it as such. swee-kod-en just doesent sound right to me. _________________ "Hearing the CRY of VICTORY, He rests in Peace"

Swee is just the japanese accent.
It would phonetically be Su wee ko Den
Like in the 12 Kingdoms anime where they use Sui in several words.
Or like saying mahnga, instead of mAnga.
or ahhnime instead of anime.
If yer an english speaking person, there is no reason to pronounce it Swee.
Thats like using the rolling R every time you say burrito. _________________ "............yo!" |

I always thought it was sue-e-co-den, but i didn't get that confirmed until the ninja in Metal Gear Solid asked me if I liked Suikoden. (I think.) _________________

I always pronounced it sue-co-den. I probably will still call it sue-co-den even if it is wrong. I have just always said it that way. _________________

I have always pronounced it Su-i-kå-den =). Its very easy for us from sweden beacuse out pronounciation of the regular letters resembles the Japanese way very much.
And we got three more letters then you. haha ÅÄÖ. I'm specially found of Ö.
To bad we are mistaken for Switzerland all the time.
Doesnt really matter how you pronounce it. Still the best game serie ever. Thats what counts. _________________ Shiver My Shuriken!! |

Su-wee-ko-den is how I pronounced it after talking to someone about it, and he pronounced it like that. So I decided that's how I'd pronounce it as well. _________________ "Brother...father....for the glory of our family..." - Sun Quan |

The Ninja didn't ask you if you liked Suikoden.
Psycho mantis did, when he was reading your mind aka your memory card, as the fifth boss in the game.

I believe the race of a person actually affects how they would pronounce it...
Generally, asians should be able to pronounce it as swee-ko-den.
Westerners would either pronounce the i seperately, or change it to su
Of course, non japanese asians wouldn't be able to grasp the exact accent needed to pronounce it really accurately... _________________ Kobolds are great! |
