My newest DVD is also, in an oddly paradoxial kind of way, my oldest.

Back in late 2000, I started my DVD collection with the newly released Transformers the Movie on DVD. It was definitely a step up from the old VHS releases as the colour had been remastered and Spike's infamous profanity was restored. Of course, the Canadian VHS (at least) had Spike's curse. There were also a selection of storyboards and an interview with Vince DiCola, who composed the soundtrack for the movie.

This wasn't enough for many Transformers fans as the movie was presented in full screen (4:3) and they would continually demand a widescreen version, despite it being proven that the film was matted for widescreen in the theatres. (it was easy to prove by taking screenshots provided from the widescreen trailer and comparing them side by side with the same scenes from the full screen DVD)

Needless to say, that was more than enough for me to buy the DVD as I have always been a fan of Transformers. (though I did go a number of years where it had completely faded from memory until it resurfaced on TV as "Generation Two" with the much maligned Cybernet Space Cube.

Now, just the other day, I picked up Transformers the Movie: 20th Anniversary Special Edition. This 2-disc set includes not only the full screen version of the movie, but also the widescreen version. Yup, now everyone can see how the widescreen version contains less picture than the full screen. Add to the mix a commentary track with Nelson Shin (the director), Flint Dille (story consultant and writer of the "Five Faces of Darkness" follow-up) and Susan Blu (voice of Arcee)

Also included are the theatrical trailer along with multiple TV commercials, credits test shots, deleted or alternate footage, animated storyboards, toy commercials from both North America and Japan. There are also three featurettes, detailing the death of Optimus Prime, the cast and characters of the movie and a Transformers Q&A with the members of the commentary track and a few more. One of the coolest extras is actually the Scramble City episode made exclusively for Japan, which didn't get the movie until a few years after, but my only gripe is it only has the option to view it with commentary, which means the original audio track isn't included, nor does it have subtitles so you can understand the flow of the story.

All this for a mere $16.99 Canadian and you've got one hell of a good deal. Apparently, Sony will be re-releasing the original episodes on DVD in 2007 as well. If the quality of those releases are comparable to this one (and they don't add the sound effects which Rhino felt were necessary) then I may just do the evil double dip in hopes of getting the definitive version of the series on DVD. That is, if Sony doesn't gouge the consumer like Rhino was fond of doing.

Had to go and track down some more titles that weren't available through Deep Discount DVD. Several of them are hentai, but there are also some regular ones in there too. Picked up:

Princess 69 Lesson 2
Green Green vol. 1
Saikano: Another Love Song
Ranma 1/2 movie box set
Princess 69: Midnight Gymnastics vol.1
Trinity Blood vol. 2 limited edition
Bible Black New Testament vol. 1
Bible Black New Testament vol. 2
Dragon Pink
Elfen Laid
Momiji vol. 1

Yeah, maybe I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with anime DVDs, but what the hey, it's only money. I can always make more.

After seeing Lady Vengeance today, I just couldn't help myself and made another purchase. Thankfully the sale was extended 'til the 23rd. That's it for now, though, at least until next month.

Well, it's been awhile since I've put up an update of my newest DVDs. In fact, I've been abit lax in my purchases in the last month or so. Part of it being games taking up my time and the other being I'm running out of titles to buy. But below are the titles I've bought the last four weeks.

Over the Hedge (Widescreen Edition)
Monster House (Widescreen Edition)
King Kong (Three-Disc Deluxe Extended Edition)
Mission Impossible III (Widescreen Edition)
The Transformers - The Movie (20th Anniversary Special Edition)
Voltron - Defender of the Universe - Collection One
Justice League Unlimited - Season One
Batman Beyond - Season Two
Superman - The Animated Series, Volume Three
Singapore Sling
Trinity Blood - Chapter II Limited Edition
Basilisk - Volume 1: Scrolls of Blood (Limited Edition)
Basilisk - Volume 2: The Spoils of War (Limited Edition)
Basilisk - Volume 3: Parting of Ways (Limited Edition)

I just about forgot to list up my newest purchases for this month! Tragedy narrowly averted!

Comic Party Revolution vol. 2
Eureka Seven vol. 5 (special edition)
Planetes complete collection
Rumbling Hearts starter set (future volumes I will be calling it Kimi ga Nozomu Eien because I really don't like the name they used for the R1 release)
Negima vol. 4 (limited edition)
Trinity Blood vol. 3 (limited edition)
Kodocha vol. 10
Speed Grapher vol. 4 (limited edition)
Voltron set 2
Kamichu vol. 4
Hellsing Ultimate vol. 1 (limited edition)
Fate/Stay night vol. 1 (limited edition)
Full Moon vol. 3
Bleach vol. 1
Ninja Nonsense vol. 4

I probably need to cut back a bit, I'm finding it difficult to watch all the stuff I buy before the next shipment arrives.

Well, I've cut way back on my purchases. In fact, I wasn't going to make any this month, but I happened to stumble across two very, very rare limited editions of Trinity Blood vol. 1 which I bought both of since they sell for over $80 on eBay and only cost me $30 each, and I picked up Hellsing Ultimate vol. 1 w/limited edition Arucard figure. Those three are all I've bought this month. Maybe I'll have my unwatched pile whittled down far enough to where I can buy some more next month. Gotta at least get it down to 20 unwatched DVDs before I can do that. I think I'm at around 70 right now.

never heard of it. whats that about and let me know if it is any good.

Last week I picked up a couple of movies

1. The Curse of The Golden Flower (directed by the same guy who did Hero with Jeti Li and House of Flying Daggers) If you have seen either of those movies and liked them I suggest watching the Curse of the Golden Flower. It has a great story which is kind of slow to start and then has a lot of awesome action/battle scenes.

2. I also bought Pursuit of Happiness(with Will Smith) what a great movie.

and I may be getting Eragon on Sunday
