The designers of the game felt like it discouraged new people (people who hadn't played Suikoden 3) from playing Suikoden 4. I disagree, however that was their reasoning behind it. _________________

Is that why? That's rediculous! If anything, you would still get the same people playing it, but the new people would be more likely to play the earlier games. _________________

I've got to echo the question of "is that why?" as well, since there's really nothing which could really be gained by loading data from Suikoden III into Suikoden IV, considering the latter took place more than 150 years prior to the former. _________________

As far as I remember, that's what the developers said. Or maybe they never did say "why" and I'm just using their generic excuse for everything that went wrong in that game. Basically everything that the producers did in Suikoden IV was an attempt to make the game more appealing to people outside the fandom. *shrug* I do seem to remember that being their explanation, however. Any thoughts, Vexie? _________________

Ebay is your best bet for a decent price, although Amazon will also have it, but probably more expensive. _________________

Don't rule out having used game chains search their stores for it. That's how I got mine, although that was like 5 years ago. _________________

Probably the wrong place to ask this but im very curious to know what happens in s3 when you load up s2 data before starting the game. My s1 is ntsc, my s2 is pal and my s3 is ntsc so i never got the benefits of loading previous game data.
Have just recently completed s3 and was looking forward to seeing what s2 links occured in the game when i loaded it, then realised why it wudne read the s2 data. I know its probably nothin major but id like to know what i missed as i really enjoyed s3 and lapped up all the s2 links and references in it. |

As far as I remember....you get 1 additional play (2 if your S2 carried over from S1 data) plus your hero's name carries over and is mentioned in one of the old books instead of the default name.
...I think......haven't touched em for awhile so not absolutely sure.
As for the thread topic....I always thought it's because Murayama left
Of course the "pretty excuse" is "we don't want newbies to the series be discourage" or "what's the point of carrying over data to a game that's 140 years before the previous numbered installment" _________________

Plus the name used for Dunan matches the named used by the army in Suikoden II, when talking to random towns people, particularly in Caleria. I think perhaps a few lines of ingame dialogue change as well, but not sure on that one. _________________
