[size=150:sacb7uai]Reflections

[p:sacb7uai]Glenn Franklin sat on his front porch taking in the final breaths of a spring far too short in the passing, sensing the oppressive summer heat set in unusually early. It had been his first spring in many years void of adventure, or at least the aftermath of one. After three solid years of non-stop action and six months recovering from it all he'd now been fairly dormant since the summer prior. He'd spent most of his time occupied as a manager in a small recording enterprise - hardly a job worthy of a former Ki officer subordinate only to Aekir himself. Those days were dead and gone though, long gone, and through the extensive recovery that followed he was thankful enough that an economy still existed for him to indulge in.[/p:sacb7uai]
[p:sacb7uai]Glenn had been only 22 when the Ki fell. He was now pushing 34 with little to show for it. He'd made a name for himself in 2010 as a member of the Freedom Fighters in their battle against Dr. Righteous. In the course of a year and a half though few remember all save the greatest of heroes. While the names Andrew Lizar and Akira Kusanagi would go down in history, "Glenn Franklin" held no meaning. Furthermore he was single and had little to occupy his free time save his swordsmanship.[/p:sacb7uai]
[p:sacb7uai]The archaic practice of battle with steel and stone had regained its popularity over the past decade. South Africa, now one of the leading nations in the world, annually held a fighting tournament in its capital of Johannesburg that had captured the imagination of the world. Thousands of wannabe-heroes had taken to the sword, lance, or whatever suited them best in hand-to-hand combat. Glenn himself competed in both the 2009 and 2010 games, but the last year, soon to be the last two, he'd sat out, choosing to spend the time honing his skills in the hopes of less crushing defeats in the tournaments to come.[/p:sacb7uai]
[p:sacb7uai]It was this same hobby that constantly reminded Glenn of a certain mystery he'd thus far failed to unravel. The sword with which he fought was the only remaining link to a series of most unusual events, the culmination of which resulted in the deaths of quite a number of his friends. It then belonged to Shadow, a member of the Freedom Fighters seemingly hell-bent on tracking down and killing a man he called Krow - the man who had destroyed the remainder of the Ki after Aekir's demise. The two, Glenn and Shadow, met by chance, each bearing a separate grudge on the same man, and though he was never privy to Shadow's cause there was no doubt in Glenn's mind that it was greater than his own. When Krow was at last confronted Glenn was forced to wait at a distance. He saw only the explosion, and found only the sword within its aftermath.[/p:sacb7uai]
[p:sacb7uai]With this one remnant of the past Glenn pressed on. He knew nothing of Shadow and Krow's history, nor of their final confrontation, but he could safely conclude that both were dead and their legacy with them. The Zicron Blade as it was known rested in the ashes unscathed, a final memory. This was almost three years ago now, and since then Glenn's skills has improved tremendously. The sword seemed to possess some kind of inner power, and the more he used it the more he learned to unleash it just as Shadow had. If somewhere buried inside there the truth still held firm, perhaps one day he would unleash it. Until then Glenn was content to witness his own progression at an alarming rate.[/p:sacb7uai]
[p:sacb7uai]Today was not meant for training however. This was a day for reflection. Watching the setting sun highlight the subtle shades of green blossoming forth from every tree on the hillside, Glenn felt more compelled to think about the future than train for it. He could settle down and start a family, and perhaps for a time he considered it, but not now. The sword was an ever-present itching desire for battle. Global threats were for the moment subdued. The Freedom Fighters were on hiatus. Indeed, he'd not so much as talked to a fellow member in months. As hypocritical as it felt to desire a conflict, he'd grown downright bored with the peace he'd helped create. If ever again the group was called in to action, he would be the first to respond...[/p:sacb7uai]

NDR: Where Clarence Croft, Samuel Reynolds, and David Holmes are the main story characters around which this plotline will revolve, Glenn Franklin is my own personal character and not the center of attention. The former three are all new to this chapter (as in, post 001), whereas Glenn is a returning character from previous chapters. If you'd like to use him (or any of the other three) as a means to tie any of your own characters into the story feel free to, just talk to me first.
