Treasure maps [Poss. Spoilers, eventually, I hope]

I am currently at the point where you pick up Selma and Axle after saving Na-Nal from the Kooluk Poison Control Center, and I was wondering if I missed something regarding treasure maps. How do they get analyzed, should they have been analyzed by now, that sort of stuff. Any help would be great.

You have to recruit the character Rene first.

Recruit Rene by:
There's a bottle lying around on the beach on Nay Island. Pick it up. Read it. It doesn't make much sense unless you've previously come across Donut Island (like I had) which is a small island west of Obel. Go there after you've gotten the bottle and talk to the chick there.

thanks for your help... as of yet I haven't seen any bottles on Nay though, so I'll keep looking.
