|
|
The things that always confused me were the wars in S1 and S2. One of the original features of the game is that a character can either get injured or die in battle.
Even though i have never experimented, what happens if a lead character dies in battle. I remember in the first game, and Sheena dies in one of the battles. Would he be in the second game if he died in the first? I'm confused. Someone please explain this...Because Sheena has somewhat of a primary role in the second game. |

hmmmm well suikoden 2 assums that all of your charectors survived (well assuming you loaded the data for gremio) just as though the reconised fire hero is hugo despite the ability to play thru as chris or Ged. And only certain charectors can die in the battles. Your lead person cant be killed obvisouly and certain other key charectors can. (although if they are there sprite is not seen but thier text box is whenever they were supposed to deliver story dialouge) _________________ "Hearing the CRY of VICTORY, He rests in Peace"
Suikoden 5 didnt make me less of a fan; it restored my faith after the abomination that was suikoden 4. |

Basically, characters vital to the plot don't die.
They don't die during wars in the game in which they're important, and they won't be dead in that game if they died in a previous one. |

I just think it's weird how they do that... That's probably why they eliminated deaths in war from Suikoden III..

Also, what's going to happen when the time comes that they will retell the story of the Second Fire Bringer War....I'm sure it would take up too much memory to have three different stories.... It's kind of saddening, but I assume that Hugo, Geddoe, and Chris wont make another appearance unless it's a prequel to another game... |

Actually, characters can die during the wars in Suikoden III, it's just that almost all of the battles include only those characters involved in the plot.
In battles involving optional recruits (primarily the very last war battle) it is possible to lose characters permanently. |

It really would have been interesting if character deaths could carry over from game to game... just imagine what might happen if you managed to kill off Luc in Suikoden II. They'd need to write an entirely different plot in that case!
...Well, not entirely different. Probably with a lot more Albert and Yuber and less Luc and Sarah. _________________ Continue to push until it has given, by the way. |

Well, characters important to the plot can't actually die... They'll just be injured all the time... It's the minor characters such as Emilia, Annalee etc that has a chance of dying... _________________ Kobolds are great! |

I don't think Luc can die in II. That's why you'd want to kill him as soon as you go against Kwanda Rosman in Suikoden. |

they can die; if you look at the tablet of stars and see a grayed out name, that means they died in battle (sI and sII). while this information has no effect on other games, it affects the outcome of the current game you're playing, meaning the ending sequence.
writing the scripting for deaths would be difficult; they'd have to write up how a death of character 'x' affected the plot line of the next story; this would be time consuming and rather expensive. if they did this, we'd be looking at a game that would cost closer to $100 or more (us) rather than just $50.
programmers have to be practical when they create games; to sit and worry/work in every minor possibility would mean a game would take even longer to create and cost much more than the average gamer is willing to pay-it's about cost effectiveness and marketing.
more storylines within a game mean more complaining about 'my favorite character, x, did blah blah, blah' and i just don't see them doing that; no matter how well written, someone's gonna whine about it. _________________ prinny...DOOD!

sybillious, in S1, yes everyone could die in major battles. But in S2, only non-storyline characters could die. Characters like Shu, Viktor, Flik, and some others who are storyline characters could not die. I honestly doubt that Luc could die in S2 either because he has a role in explaining about the Golden Wolves in Muse. So Pyroflame might be referring to S1 instead.
Programmers wouldn't have to sit and worry in minor possibilities at all. It's the creator's job to do that because it's the creator who creates the storyline of the game. Programmers only do the coding of what the creator wanted.

Oops. Yea, twas in Suikoden 1 I did it. I just had done it too.
Your guys were less likely to die in Suikoden 2 anyways.
Also, The code in Suikoden 1 wasn't x character involved in plot, and here's why.
If you attack with lepant's family, either Eileen, or Sheena will die. Always. And trust me, I've killed them numerous times (Against Kwnada, Sonya, Teo, Milich, and the last Battle at Gregminister. I just don't like Sheena in that game, so I enjoyed watching him die.)
However, say you use Commander's team. Joe.....er....Tir can't die. Phan can, because after you fight Teo, he's "useless". You see? It's a very simple script. Very simple. In fact, I could probably write it in Turing, it's that easy. Of course it would show a couple letters, and then one would disappear, but it's the same premise.
Put Team used (x1, x2, x3)
X switch 1 is on for x2, x3
X-army loses *** troops
Y-army loses 0 troops
Kill x2
Not hard at all. If the switch is on for the person to be killed, it's random. IE, Lepant attacking, and he gets slaughtered. Either Eileen or Sheena will die. |

If characters die in war battles, wouldn't it be impossible to get the game's best ending/ the extra "feature" you get if you collect all the stars. I never tried it, though I did get Grenseal and Eileen to die in Suikoden. Also, can Ridley die in a war battle in II? He has a replacement if you choose to kill him, so would Boris join the Army if Ridley just dies in a regular battle? |

Boris' arrival is a story event. Ridley has plot events almost up until the moment he dies. _________________ Continue to push until it has given, by the way. |

Thus, Ridley cannot be killed in a war battle as well. The only way for Boris to appear is via the story sequence in Tinto.
And you know, Luc CAN die in S1's major battle because he wasn't exactly involved in the storyline after he is recruited in the whole S1. At that time, the creators haven't thought of a plausible plot for him in future installments, so they can't be blamed for letting Luc be a die-able character in 1.
In 2 however, as someone has mentioned, he is involved in the plot directly, so he can't die... _________________ Kobolds are great! |
