Even the dogs? The only dog I bothered on was Connie. A+ in Pale Gate Magic. Hahahaha!!!! That's craziness right there!

Yeah, it took me about 3 months off and on to do that. I just beat the six mini bosses every few days or so and I finished it eventually.

Yeah, even the dogs. Connie was pretty sweet. She holds my only Pale Gate Rune.

The dogs take the longest, considering the point in the game you get them at. I have every character with maxed skills as well. The hardest characters are the ones you get fairly early in the game but rarely use, since they start with so few skill points. Characters you get later in the game can sometimes max out all of their skills as soon as you get them because they have enough skill points at recruitment. Thomas, Cecile, Juan, and Piccolo also take a long time due to their skewed skill growth. Thomas especially. His Wind Magic, Accuracy, and some other skill I forgot are really expensive, but go to A+.

The A+'s of the game (which makes things difficult):

Thomas: Accuracy, Parry, Repel, Wind Magic
Cecile: Shield Protect, Damage, Holy Dash
Piccolo: Lightning Magic, Pale Gate Magic
Juan: Fire Magic (but who ever did this anyway)
Rhett: Swing
Connie: Water Magic, Pale Gate Magic
Kogoro: Freeze
Koichi: Continual Attack
Kosanji: Adrenaline Power
Melville: Heavy Damage
Toppo: Magic Resistance

Anyway... the only person I heard that could die was Edge, but I think all non-story VIP's can die. Edit: Nevermind. Sage already posted how to check who is a story VIP and who is not. Helps to read the whole thread too. :|

I take it those are the Skills that can get to A+, but cost a lot? The expensive Skill growth rates that is. They appear to have the growth rate of a Skill that can only reach rank C but in fact go to A+.

Yep. That's them. You need 1410 (60/100/150/200/250/300/350) Skill points to max them.

I think maxing every character is not worth the time because yuo will not use everyone of them and you will be too tired to have fun. :D

Could someone tell me how people die. I never had it happen and I'm not sure how it would. I know that in Suikoden Tactics people can die in battle but I never encountered it in Suikoden III.

If the unit they are in is eradicated in a strategy battle, there's a chance a non-'story vip' in that unit can die. I believe the requirement is that both the character and the unit leader must be reduced to 0 HP in battle for that person to possibly die but I'm not totally sure on the specifics since it's never happened to me. Hugo, for example, is not going to die in this way (because he holds one of the true ones and is vital to the story), but others that you recruit like Edge or Futch could.

I dont think you really have to get all 104 before the final war, because in my first playthrough, I recruited Koruku (that stupid dog I cant find) after that last battle. After the main storyline, I still got to play Luc's chapter.

...And nobody died except Jimba and Yun

I think it's mostly up to chance in the first 3 Suikoden's if people die or not, but I do think the unit has to be really decimated to activate it.

I never had it happen in Suikoden 3, but I remember being horrified when Luc, I think, died in Suikoden I. Thankfully the first playstation had a very nice reset button within easy reach...;)

That's not nice. Imagine loading that file onto Suikoden II. You'll be haunted by Luc's ghost for quite some time! Wahahaha!

And then load that S2 file for Suikoden III!
