Mar-Uruk is the original Nagarean city which according to legend was created by the Gods. As such it is regarded as the holy centre of the country and is the focus of many pilgrimages from faithful citizens from across the entire country. Many of these pilgrims come to bathe in the Fountains of Apsu which is said to hold magical healing properties and to view the palaces of the royal family who are widely regarded as being directly descended from the Gods themselves. In a feat of engineering unmatched anywhere else in the country the entire city is walled by the massive and impenetrable Great Walls of Uruk which were constructed to guard the city and its inhabitants against aggression from heathens and unbelievers.
