Review scores: Suikoden 5 PS2 - 8/7/9/8 - (32/40)

btw Here is Bebpo's (gaming age forums) summary of the reviews (sometimes famitsu doesn't really play a game for long periods of time and decide to review them..often times honeyhats are involved with famitsu reviews):

SUIKODEN V
GUY1
-Graphics are better than 4!
-Tons of stuff to do (in a good way)
-World map is bigger than 4!

GUY2
-Very satified by the length/amount of stuff to do in the game
-The change of viewpoints makes it easier to play, but could be confusing to some. (not sure if he means camera or you play as different characters at parts aka. Suikoden III). (note: ?!!?)

GUY3
-Characters are very expressive! (Yay!)
-Battles are simple, fun, and easy to figure out.
-The map is tooooooo big (not sure if he's happy or upset. Sounds like he's both)
-A good traditional rpg

GUY4
-The characters are good.
-The pacing is so good I could even play a 2nd time.
-Very easy to play game.

WHAT THEY REALLY MEAN
-We played it for about an hour.
-We didn't die once.
-We couldn't find the 2nd town.
-Instruction manual was large.

Well the impression I got from skimming 2ch before the reviews came out (don't have time to skim them now at the moment) was that the Japanese fans thought Dengeki Playstation magazine has always been particularly (maybe too?) Suikoden-friendly while Famitsu is the opposite.

Though Im glad it seems that they for the most part liked the game.

Though I guess the review problems as you guys said could me there >.>

But still...

Can't wait for it to come out here now >.<

It can't be that large. I believe they never played Flight Simulator in their lives. Anyway, 32/40 is very good, considering we're talking about Famitsu here. Also, for one hour, figuring out the world map was VERY big is a bit dificult, IMO...

For most incredible that it must be, they gave 30/40 to Suikoden IV. I always thought that they gave it 20 something, but they gave it a 30. At least, SV is better, by them.

Also, Dengeki overall appears to be the more reliable review source. Famitsu gives everything like an 8 or 9 and it's ridiculous. Even the worst games (Dirge of Cerberus) get high scores in the 7's and such.

To be honest I mostly care about the storyline and length, the gameplay looks rather decent I expect to be amazed than disappointed with the gameplay.

The plot is what worries me, Konami has a tendency to open new mysteries RHAPSODIA SPOILER START (Simeon from Rhapsodia and his mysterious apparent age and acquaintance with Jeane is one of the latest new mysteries) END without closing any of the old ones, is starting to get tiring, I really won't be surprised if by the end of the game we don't get to find anything new about Georg, or something more particularly in-depth for Killey and Lorelai, though hopefully we will...

After the Nintendogs 40/40 Famitsu isn't what it used to be in my eyes...

They probably give reviews based on who makes it and the like. That's usually what happens now-a-days. I'm going to wait till SARS or someone else here reviews it before I leap to conclusions...

well, the "Famitsu doesn't play the games long" tidbit kind of cleared that for me.
Oh and for comparison, Rhapsodia and Suikoden III both got 31/40 in Famitsu. So Suikoden V actually did great by overscoring the rest of the PS2 Suikodens!

Japanese magazines, especially Famitsu are not to be trusted. It is well known that they base their review scores on certain conditions and often times it's like total PR for the same developer no matter how good the game is (case in point, Nintendogs). Dengenki is apparently a much more reliable source.
