|
|
Thanks to GameInformer we have an interview done by them with King and Sakiyama seen here:
http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200601/N06.0126.1902.37223.htm
It talks about the series's evolution, battle system, game length, their work as directors, etc. Hope you enjoy! _________________ Richmond: "I'm still not sure what kind of a creature he is. Some people say he's just a

Kitty and Lauren? Uhh i'm thinking they horribly disfigured those two character's names, if it's who i'm thinking they meant. Anyway, cool...40+ hours sounds like a nice length. I'm guessing with doing everything like I do that number could be raised a good bit.
Thanks for posting the link. |

GI: I know that it's a totally new country and world that we are exploring but are there any returning characters or names of characters this time around from earlier games?
Tanaka: It's all part of the Suikoden world. It is a new country but there is one character you may already recognize, George who is in Suikoden I. And also Kitty and Lauren make appearances in this game. |

George, Kitty, and Lauren, haha!
Anyways, it's a pretty interesting interview. I was kind of worried seeing the statement "we had to cut some corners this generation" (although from what we've seen about V, there's nothing to worry about). This really makes me excited to see where the Suikoden series goes from here. _________________

George...
Suikoden I...
Who the hell is Kitty and Lauren...

GI: It was revealed that this would be the longest game of the series. How long do you estimate this one will take the average gamer to play through?
Sakiyama: Players should get through the game in about 40 hours but if you want to do everything, that will certainly change.
Tanaka: It would probably be very difficult to see the good ending in 40 hours. |
Suikoden III is probably the longest, it took me 70+ to get all the stars, V seems average to IV, I don't like that, but then again so did II so within that time great things might happen...
Quote: |
GI: How many different endings are there in the game?
Sakiyama: (laughs) Sorry, can't say that one. |
That probably means more than two, kind of like II, the rest of the Suikoden games had only two endings I believe...
So not bad...
I'm worried a little for the said length, since I really did expect this to be bigger than previous games, but as long as the story is good I'm content. _________________ "I am ye who walks his own path and thus I walk alone" |

I wouldn't be too worried about the length. While Suikoden III took a long time to beat, much of that time was spent seeing the plot from different viewpoints. Anyways, when developers say 40 hours, it usually ends up being more for me. Plus, as King (I believe) said, it should take more than 40 to get the perfect ending. _________________

Hopefully 'Kitty and Lauren' will become the next big legend amongst the Suikoden community. I'd love to see a Suikoden fansite called 'Kitty and Lauren'.
Now let's hope that Konami's notoriously sketchy translators don't follow the trend. :P _________________ One day, I shall come back. Yes, we shall all come back. I'm still waiting for an interview where they ask the staff why they've been avoiding games after Suikoden III. |

...K-k-k-itty?
<- Does this guy in my avatar look like a man named Kitty? 0.i
Where on earth did they get those names? 0.o George I can see - but Lauren? Kitty?
It truly is amazing at how little there is right in that one slim paragraph.

I think that's the bare-bones version where you don't do any sidequests/character recruitment/etc. than necessary. At least, I hope. _________________

I'll also chime in on that projected length.
I beat Suikoden in about 20 hrs, II in just under 30,
III in around 60, and IV in about 25.
I don't really rush through the games,
and those were my times on my virgin plays.
Given that, I fully expect this game to go over 50 hours.
Because I WILL be going for the good ending,
and doing side-quests when at all possible.
I also like to power level, so hopefully I get my money's worth.
I know I did just that with Rhapsodia, so I am hopeful here.
I'd like to think it'll have comparable length to Dragon Quest VIII.
But to say 40 hrs, knowing full well that III was EASILY longer than that...
well, I just don't understand why the interviewer didn't respond to that.
But anyway, I seriously doubt I will be beating it that quickly,
though this does dash my hopes of a 70+ hour game.
In my experience though, whenever a company touts length,
it just ends up being a lot of hot air.
Xenosaga ep 1, really comes to mind there.
I still hold out hope that Suikoden V will be trumping
myfirst times through Xenogears, Final Fantasy VII, and Suikoden III,
all of which brought me over 60 hours.
But regardless, the most important thing is that the time spent is enjoyable,
and that demands a stellar rpg experience, which I am very optimistic about. _________________ "............yo!" |

Also, I can only imagine crazy fan boy dreams after hearing...
"So I think we are very close to the next big RPG evolution.
Now what we have to do is figure out
how to put all of the Suikoden characters into it and pull it off."
I would question translation and intended meaning,
but wouldn't it be cool if he meant that literally? _________________ "............yo!" |
