Time for another online contest! Too bad we only have 2 days to enter! They must have done that on purpose.

RPGamer.com is currently hosting a contest in order to win either Wild ARM's 4 or Generation of chaos.

http://rpgamer.com/contests/jan06/rpgeopardy.html

But unlike previous contests which are based on luck, this one actually has some skill involved. Basically, it's a Jeopardy type of game that asks about RPG games. This is right up our forte, so I wanted everyone to be aware of it.

My chances of winning this thing by myself are really low since I know next to nothing about all the RPG's in the world. But through a group effort, we have a good shot at gaining the most amount of points. (The highest total gets the prizes. If there are ties, then it's picked randomly out of the group) And though a lot of people here will have the same totals, I'd rather have a 1% chance of winning rather than 0%.

Entries answering the questions must be emailed to

contest@rpgamer.com

by 11:59 PM PDT January 28, 2006.

One entry per person. Otherwise you will be disqualified

RPGamer.com wrote:
Welcome to RPGamer's first contest of 2006! For this event the depth of your knowledge about all things relating to RPGs will be plumbed like never before. Behind each of the links on the right is a series of questions relating to one general topic; each question is assigned a point value. All you have to do to enter is send an email - making sure to answer the questions - to contest@rpgamer.com with the word "RPGeopardy" in the subject line. At the end of the contest each entrant will have their score tallied based on the answers they submitted. The four entrants with the highest scores will each receive a copy of either Generation of Chaos (1) or Wild ARMs 4 (3). In the event that more than four contest entries have a winning point total, four winners will be chosen at random from those that qualify.

• A correct answer will earn you points.
• Getting an incorrect answer will not hurt your score.
• Answers do not need to be in the form of a question.
• All questions must be answered using only one email.
• All questions refer to a game or games covered by RPGamer.
• Your email must include your name, age, and mailing address.

RPGamer would like to thank Nippon Ichi Software America and XSEED Games for the prizes for this contest.

I think wilkepedia and internet will be good sources, but I don't really trust them very well.

And now, for the actual questions and their categories: (I will edit them along the way with answers along with the people who first contributed them. But that doesn't mean that they're absolutely correct. This is why a group effort is best to help each other.)

I have no idea how to answer any of these....

Question 49 refers to Wild ARMS 1. I don't recall the war having a name other than the 'Ancient War'.

Question 22 is probably referring to 'real Emotion'.

It's asking for the name of the world.

Is this Marin from Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening? I don't remember any type of tragic end, though.

Huh . . . I forgot to write KOS-MOS . . . I knew I saw that question somewhere!

Thanks for the additional adds guys.

And Takemura, I just added the name of the games as a personal service to everyone. A few of them are rather vague and a few people may be curious.

Here's some of the easier ones for me:

04: Colorstone Mine (Dragon Quest VII)
05: Temple of Moo (Might & Magic 3)
12: Kos-Mos (Xenosaga 1,2)
16: Forgotten Realms (Dungeons and Dragons) --> I think?
28: Erotic Book (Shadow Hearts)
37: Angkor Wat
38: Nemeton Abbey (Koudelka)
39: Tengu
40: Minotaur

Question 32 refers to Magna Carta but that's all I know.

Unless you're offering a correction or confirmation to a debatable answer, I'd greatly appreciate it if there were no listed repeats. It makes things much easier. Thank you.

If that's the case, then my mistake, I apologize. It just gets a little complicated when more and more of the list is filled up. I'm not going to remember if this answer was said or whether or not this contradictory information is real or not . . . etc.

But I'm fine with people discussing the respective games here. That's what the thread is for. Just take care of anything that looks like a list . . . that's all I'm saying.

I told you this in Tinto but I'll repost it here, the answer to Question 47 is the Sword of Zaramoth and the land Toril of Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate is fully known as Abreir-Toril but that is very formal and seldom used even in the games.

Oh and Question 9's answer is Imperia from Gladius.

Sorry typoed the Toril thing, it's Abeir-Toril. I'm not sure if spelling is important in this or not so I thought it best to correct myself.

I think we'll go with the proper name. I mean I doubt it'll hurt. I'm sure the judges know what we are referring to when we write the whole thing.

By the way, I'm really impressed that the Mythology category has been filled out. If figures though; mythological references are big strengths in RPG's. A lot of people are easily interested in them.

Internet searching by wilkepedia and other sites are actually yielding answers. But I'm hesitant to update them that way because it's a little vague. Some of them mention more than one game at once. I think we can afford to do this later when the deadline is near. We get no deductions for wrong answers.

I'm currently trying to figure out what PDT means . . . I think that means PST or Pacific Standard Time. Someone's finger must have slipped on the keyboard. So if people still want in on this by then, it's probably best to send in your email a few hours earlier.

Ced you removed the Toril part from Abeir-Toril, it just says Abeir-. :P

Edited by Ced: Good catch! That would've screwed someone over had it stayed like that, no?
