Hey folks! Just wanted to extend the invitation for folks to help collaborate on our next project. EXITheatre is a not-for-profit experimental theatre operating out of various spaces in the city of Seattle. Our wonderful company member LB is spearheading a show where we start with three rooms designed by three different designers, then explore the nature of space, story, and ideas by solicitiing for submissions. Even if you don't think you want to write a whole scene, a poem or song or whatever works too.

The following is quoted out of the teaser email that was sent to folks on our mailing list:
Quote:
In February EXITheatre returns to its experimental,
collaborative roots with our new original project, ROOMS.
An investigation into how human histories are recorded in
the spaces we inhabit, ROOMS. is also an experiment in
creating a theatrical event in reverse. Rather than
starting with a text, finding a director and actors, then
designing a world for the text to exist in, we are doing
the opposite. We have started with three rooms, each
designed with a specific (but secret) story in mind, then
gathered an ensemble of actors who will explore the spaces
and generate text out of that exploration... and we need
YOUR help!

How can a seemingly inanimate object or space hold the
history and tell the story of an individual? How does
one measure empty space in a room? Is there a difference
between a room being physically empty and emotionally
empty? If every space actively tells a story, then is a
room containing no objects still considered empty? Do we
impact a room more than the room impacts us?

One of the most important aspects of this project is to
find out how different people interpret and experience the
rooms, and we would love your thoughts. The EXIT website
has a section dedicated to the ROOMS. project
(http://www.exitheatre.com/projects_frame.html). There is
project history, information, and renderings for each of
the three rooms. We invite you to visit the site and let
us know what stories the rooms tell you (also on the site
is a link to our discussion boards and an email address
where you can share your ideas with us). We're seeking as
much inspiration as we can garner from wherever we can
garner it, and your thoughts might end up as a part of the
show!

So stop by www.exitheatre.com and join in our generative
process, and be on the lookout for more information about
ROOMS. soon!

Best,

EXITheatre and the ROOMS. Ensemble

As one of the collaborators and the assistant director for the show, I'd love to hear from anyone with any ideas. Either PM me or check out the forums on www.exitheatre.com. Thanks and have a wonderful day!

Why advertise for this here? Good luck I suppose, but there's probably very few people from Seattle here.

Putting it up to let people respond and submit works if they want to for the show. Granted, it helps if you live in Seattle because it'll be easier to see the finished project then, but we do have a friend in NYC who's helping out when she can too. We also have started digitally archiving our shows, so it may be possible to send stuff to people who contribute. Who knows?
