Personally my favorite RPG heroes are Riou(Suikoden 2),Cloud Strife(FFVII),Delita(FFTactics),Darc(Ark of the Lad),Ashley(Wild Arms 2),Kasim Hazel(Suikoden 1),Viktor(Suikoden 1&2),and my favorite you probably guessed Flik(Suikoden 1&2)
Some of the characters i put down arn't necissarily main heroes in games but there still heroes you know |

Probably my all time favorite hero or should I say anti hero(hero technically but very hero like) would have to be Delita from Final Fantasy Tactics. I mean his demeanor and do whatever it takes to fulfill his goals type attitude is exactly the kind of hero they need to put into games. Especially Suikoden games because the last thing we need is another wishy washy I want to help but I dont want to hurt anyone kind of hero. Suikoden needs a new win at all costs kind of hero that does it only because he has to but especially since he needs to. Not just use other tactics to try and achieve victory. As far as a regular hero goes I would have to say Jowy from the second Suikoden. I consider him to be a hero even though in the latter part of the game you are fighting against him I see him too as a hero. Fighting for the wrong reasons perhaps but certainly a hero nonetheless.

| My favorite would have to be The Nameless One from Planescape Torment. He has such a complex and utterly fascinating history, that it totally immerses you in his self discovery. |

Nice to see that someone has played that game...it`s a really fabulous game. At times it`s more like reading a book than playing a game, though.
Anyway, off of the top of my head, my favourite is probably Squall or Laguna, both from Final Fantasy 8, or Hugo from S3(he`s cliché, I know, but you I love the Karayans :)). Ryu from Breath of Fire 3 is also cool, with his dragon transformations. But this thread is just about main characters, right? Othewise my choices would be quite different....

PLANESCAPE TORMENT SPOILERS!!
The Nameless One`s true name in the ending...he discovers it, but doesn`t bother to mention it. That annoyed me...still a great game, though.

Delita was a great character. I saw eye to eye with him and his actions. His story and Jowy's (Suikoden 2) were very similar. Neither were bad guys, they did what they did because they wanted to do good. I really liked Delita and Jowy because they weren't the cliche'd evil guys.
As to my favourites:
Locke (Final Fantasy 6)
Jowy (Suikoden 2, does he count)
Geddoe (Suikoden 3)
Delita (Final Fantasy Tactics)
Citan (Xenogears)
Jr. and Chaos (Xenosaga)
I don't usually like the heros of most games because they're very shallow or 2d. An example is that a lot of the Final Fantasy characters seem very cookiecutter or cliched. You always have the perky girl, the silent-strong fighter, the love-interest and the easy-going guy who makes jokes. It's a recipe for $uccess and I'll still buy a Final Fantasy game even if they try to remake charlie's angels... :| , so take that comment with a grain of salt.

I'm amazed to see mentioned some characters i loathe... Namely, Tidus. All the whinning...and the DUTA syndrome voice.... Not that i played the game enough to get past the initial, wanky impression. Ah, well, to each his own.
For mine, I'd have to say:

Ark(Terranigma)
Cless(Tales of Phantasia)
