With all three nextgen (or should I call them current gen now) systems now in circulation I realized that all three systems have something about them which could impact the gaming industry in the long-term. I am talking about the Xbox 360's LIVE centralized on-line system, Nintendo's Wii-mote and Sony's Blu-Ray Disc. Which do you think will have the more meaningful and bigger impact on the gaming industry in the long run? Explain why do you think your choice is probably going to be the correct choice in the long run.

MS' Live has already somewhat been dragged in with Epics deal with Sony in regards to the PS3, so if that continues in a sense then regardless of what MS do with Live there will always be a viable alternative, and since one can argue that the PS3 will greatly outlive the 360 it could also lessen whatever standing MS would have. Nintendo I think need to step up a gear and actually start 'showing off' the Wiimote which will keep people playing it as opposed to just drawing them in and entertaining them for like 3 hours with booze involved. They really have nothing that would keep people wanting to increase their console outside of "Well it's different and cheap" which only works for so long. And the PS3 still has the most potential in my eyes to break the gaming industry open outside of control dynamics but their marketing, price and current crop of games is shocking.

truth be told however, the console market looks to be wanting to go for complete online transactions in which then MS will probably have the greater influence on the market, despite them not being able to make anything stable if they were given a premade fckin table.

Apples and Oranges comparison, and I don't think this poll can be considered fair.

You really can't compare these concepts together. One is an improvement on existing technology, one is simply an extension of an already-existing infrastructure, and one is a reinvention of input devices.

Because one is "new" and the others are "old", the poll will bias heavily in favour of the Wii-mote as it is the only innovative feature of the three that your list. In many ways, every console already has high-capacity storage; also, each console has an online gaming network, and two of the consoles have some kind of controller-motion--detection incorporated.

In contrast, if you were simply to ask which console you think will have the most impact, and take the console as a whole, instead of compartmentalizing a small set of each company's strategy, then you may be able to get a fairer comparison.

This poll is ridiculous, and seems like it was just made to get people riled up so they'll argue about something subjective and completely ridiculous.

My vote goes to "none of the above". None of them have impressed me, and I don't think any of them have made any kind of real impact.

It's difficult to say that the question is ridiculous when one looks at just what about the three machines have been a major selling point not just for gamers but the developers themselves. While all three machines may overlap in certain areas they also push a certain advantage which makes them unique.

This was a question asked Peter Molyneaux of Lionshead Studios just recently. While his answer leaned toward's his parent company's very own LIVE system the question was interesting to bring here to see just which technological aspect of the three machines would have the bigger impact in the long run.

The fact that some have pointed out that more than one machine uses a motion-sensitive controller fail to look at it beyond the technology. Nintendo was way ahead on Sony when it came to this use of the technology. Some in the industry had seen the SIXAXIS as a sort last-second attempt to make the PS3 look innovative and something comparable to the Wii. That right there is the Wii-mote impacting how another company already does it's design and business strategy. It's history that will show whether the SIXAXIS was a success or a failure.

The on-line systems for all three machines all have one thing in common and that's they allow players to be on-line, but the similarities end there. LIVE is seen as the benchmark when it comes to console gaming's on-line component. Nintendo and Sony have implemented certain aspects of the LIVE system into their own on-line system. Their implementation of their on-line systems may not have gone as smoothly or as well as Nintendo or Sony may like but LIVE's impact and influence on how these two companies look at their on-line strategy cannot be just dismissed off-hand.

Now, Sony's Blu-Ray Disc technology is one innovation which goes beyond just the gaming industry. While all three machines use a high-capacity storage system for their games it is Blu-Ray which is trying to push a new technology as the standard for the industry. Unlike the HD-DVD and DVD systems it's compared to the Blu-Ray discs have more space and, with manufacturing processes being improved as time goes by, will have the capacity to even have more space than their competitors.

While the three machines do have other aspects about them that shouldn't be left out it's really these three things which stands out the most. Microsoft always touts their LIVE system as one thing which makes the 360 an experience gamers may soon see as the on-line system for their console gaming needs. Already people compare other companies' systems to LIVE in comparison.

The same could be said about how Nintendo has made the Wii-mote the main focal point of the Wii's appeal and how it's the next step in creating a more immersive gaming experience. When the SIXAXIS was first introduced by Sony during E3 2006 the first reaction was Sony trying to one-up Nintendo in the motion-sensing controller department, yet it's the Wii-mote everyone knows about and hails as the best part of the Wii while the SIXAXIS remains more of a gimmick.

Lastly, Blu-Ray may just become the industry standard through Sony's decision to merge the PS3 with this proprietary media format. It's impact could be seen in how some developers have decided how to make games bigger, better, prettier and more immersive than what the competitors could provide. While there's no word on whether Blu-Ray will become the standard the moment it does become one will change how the other two will have to think about moving forward with their own system's future shelf life. That's an impact right there.

In the end, while the question in itself is subjective there's no attempt to create a flamebait type discussion. Discussion being the main point of the question to begin with. I think people are mature enough to get beyond the fanboyism to make a good case for their choice, or none choice for that matter, and keep things civil. Plus, there's no reason to believe that these choices may not leave a huge impact in how the gaming industry moves forward. It could be one of them, some of them or all of them. There's the reason why the choices were made.
