Quick Elliot Question [spoilers]

When he is recruited in GS3 he states his father is dead. However, during the ending it says "His ambition to become a treasure hunter, like Melville's father, is opposed by his own father." The way it's stated suggests to me it doesn't mean his father's memory or spirit was responsible for this. I was wondering if anyone could explain away this apparent contradiction?

I guess the NTSC version mistranslated that part then. In the Japanese version, it only says that his parent opposes his intentions.
