NDR: Since the forums are back up, something short to help get things rolling again.

"Unidentified flying organs," the driver chuckled, as something raw and bloody bounced off the windshield. No one else was amused. The truck came to a halt soon after, and Glenn, along with a variety of other God of Fight competitors, found themselves behind a magic barrier protecting one of the contested entrances to the Guateng. Just outside of it a few dozen Akigiyama soldiers were pressed down behind piles of rubble in a warehouse, taking and receiving shots from similarly hidden Q'orren.

With the darkness of the cave behind, Glenn was able to recognize his companions for the first time. Drako Samson, the most successful mage in that year's competition, stood at the front. Another, older mage, Gond Atramedes, stood behind, along with a shape-shifter with the stage name Vortex and that peculiar combatant Clive.

"Welcome to the front," a lone officer observing the fight from within the magic shield spoke up. "Here is the situation. The Q'orren managed to back us up inside of this building before we had time to fully secure it. A much stronger barrier is being activated around the exterior that should be able to withstand every form of attack we've observed the Q'orren using thus far, but in the meantime our current one is weak. They've already managed to get a few strikes through it just with hand-held rockets. If this roof collapses, there's a decent chance it will break and we'll be done for. Our intelligence has reported that the Q'orren are moving in heavy artillery to accomplish exactly that. Your mission is to go outside and stop it long enough for our shields to fully charge."

"Sounds like a suicide run." Drako was the only person to respond.

"Oh, it gets better." The officer turned to the corner and motioned towards a portal. "This is a one way ticket outside. We can't risk them using it against us, after all. So once you're outside, there's no getting back in unless you accomplish your task."

"Remind me again why we have to do your dirty work," Vortex asked with a scowl. "Wouldn't a special forces team trained to work together be a bit more practical?"

"You lot have the one thing these alien bastards weren't prepared to deal with," the officer retorted. "Diversity. You all fight differently, and you've never fought together before. That means the Q'orren won't be able to predict your moves."

No one responded, but his point was clear enough. It was still a long shot though, the group having only ever really seen each other before on tv with the exception of Drako and Clive's fight in the fourth round. Glenn really didn't have a clue what to expect, but that would have to be worked out in practice. A few minutes later they were in a narrow alley between two apartment buildings just outside of the warehouse.

"Wait, so you have good aim. And they sent you to my unit why?" That was the last time Kevin saw Glenn. Never mind his credentials as a Freedom Fighter, he wasn't unique, so he wasn't needed. Next thing he knew he was pulling guard duty on a group of refugees that had been caught stealing or otherwise causing trouble. But he didn't particularly envy the group he'd left behind.
