The night skyline of Johannesburg was alight with flare and festivity. The city was alive as one of the new world's most inspired metropolises should be.

Felix flicked the cigarette butt from the balcony of his hotel room before lighting up another. It was a beautiful night. Stars painted on the black sky seemed to gaze back at him. It made Felix feel lonely, which was ridiculous in itself because he had never been one to enjoy the company of others nor to seek their counsel. He was a lone wolf in every sense of the word. Perhaps he had always been that way...yet still, the night made him shiver uncomfortably.

It was not cold in the least.

"Fuck it," he muttered to himself before dropping another butt on the balcony. For years Felix had trusted his instincts to get him through whatever hardships he encountered. They had saved his life more than once- foreseeing a traitor's hand, an enemy ambush, or recognizing an assignment he wasn't supposed to survive for what it was and taking that opportunity to disappear off the radar.

Right now, his gut was telling him something was amiss.

His deadline would be up soon. Vander, The Boss, and his men would be searching for him. They would kill him, or rather, they would try. Felix wasn't concerned about that. He'd faced impossible odds before. He wasn't leaving Johannesburg, at least not with loose ends behind. To Felix, his former employer was simply another "friend" he never truly trusted.

But there was something else...something sinister. He peered once more at the night sky and scowled before checking his watch. Sighing, he rose from his chair and went inside.

It was almost time.
