[p:fo7xa54u]The Kusanagis watched from a luxury box above the arena as the God of Fight tournament continued. Akira and Miwan, both former champions, announced their plans to attend the event weeks in advance, although both declined to compete. Miwan's presence, in particular, was all but demanded, as she was the reigning God of Fight champion, and of the biggest draws the tournament ever had. She had fought in all of them, and was a three-time champion and the most successful competitor in the tournament's history by far, although her second tournament victory was marred by the interference of Krill, under the guise of Dr. Righteous, and the now defunct UPCA. Her third tournament victory in God of Fight VII, which took place a mere month after the fall of One Nation and the UPCA, happened under much quieter terms, but Miwan felt vindicated as this victory was free of corruption and taint, and it made her the only three-time God of Fight champion. The tournament committee tried in vain to get her to compete for the chance at a fourth title, but Miwan shot them down every time. Right now there were bigger concerns in her world, such as being a good wife. The past year had been very therapeutic for both Akira and Miwan. For the first time in a very long time, they had an opportunity to settle down.[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]"So what do you think about the Q'orren?" Miwan asked her husband.[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]"I'm not sure right now," he replied. "I'm just wondering why they're here."[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]"They said they were here to help."[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]"What do they mean by that, I wonder?" Akira asked. "I mean, it's no surprise that there are alien races throughout the galaxy. My best friend happens to be one. But why come to us? Wouldn't a more powerful alien race simply ignore us?"[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]"Come on, Akira, this isn't Star Trek. Maybe they don't have a prime directive."[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]"Maybe," Akira said, as his voice trailed into thought.[/p:fo7xa54u]

[p:fo7xa54u]Blue Wight paraded around the arena in a blue bikini and high heels as the next match prepared to get underway, holding up a placard announcing the participants of the match with a forced smile on her face. She and her sister both worked as ring girls for the event. At this point in time, the whole world knew that they were the daughters of the vice president, although their work in espionage and other dirty work remained a closely guarded secret. While Red enjoyed being a ring girl, Blue did not, as she had entertained thoughts of entering the tournament herself. However, their primary reason for working this job was to ensure that there would not be a repeat of what happened in God of Fight VI. Blue didn't have her monofilament knife with her, but she had a much smaller one hidden in one of her high heeled shoes, and she was just as dangerous with it.[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]Her father, Michael, sat in his own luxury box with his other daughter, Red, who was dressed in a slightly more revealing red bikini, as well as her trademark glasses. A few of the higher ups within the committee tried to get her to remove the glasses, but she refused, saying they were part of her "gimmick". Unlike Blue, Red didn't care much about being in the tournament, but she was enjoying the matches, and was happy to get a ring-side seat to half of them.[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]Michael himself wasn't paying much attention to the matches. How could he, after the Q'orren made their presence known? Wight and the tournament committee considered postponing the tournament until further notice, but Andrew himself urged that the tournament should continue. Wight did not question Andrew's judgment, and in fact understood why he chose as he did. Just because some aliens decided to pay a visit was no reason to drop everything. He would have liked to have known more about them, but that would come in time. He hoped that humanity could learn from their visit.[/p:fo7xa54u]

[p:fo7xa54u]"I don't get it," Anwyn muttered as he walked down the streets of Johannesburg. "The arcane anomaly's supposed to be right here, so why haven't we found it?"[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]Two days ago the Mystics were alerted to the presence of a flux of magical energy emanating from Johannesburg. Anwyn told Silf that he would take some of the Stosstrupen and investigate. Although the bill was void now that the UPCA ceased to exist, the Mystics chose to continue to enforce the ban on certain types of magics, partly to show a willingness to cooperate with humans, and partly because the man who helped Empress Silf write up the bill, Michael Wight, was a friend of the Mystics. On rare occasions some unusual magical patterns were detected, and this confirmed the presence of a banned magic. Most of these anomalies were limited to New Belexes, however. This was the first time they'd found something so far away.[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]Anwyn knew the significance of the distance and feared the worst. Nine months ago Khali Ventrue, who was mutated by the pure chaotic energies of the arcane, escaped from New Belexes. Although they'd not been able to find her since, Anwyn figured it would only be a matter of time. Even so, Silf herself didn't know what they should do with Khali once they found her. The logical answer would be to terminate her, and Khali herself suggested that this is what they should do, but Silf would not allow it. Even if Khali was a danger to the Mystics, and indeed the world, Silf had desperately wanted to help her even before her mutation.[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]There was no sign of Khali, though, or any sort of magical anomaly. Anwyn wondered if their detection magics might not be working correctly when one of the Stosstrupen spoke up. "I think I've found it."[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]"Where?" Anwyn asked.[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]"It's...above us."[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]Anwyn looked up in the air and saw nothing. Even so, he cast a simple detection spell. His colleague was right...the anomaly was above them. Very far above them, in fact.[/p:fo7xa54u]
[p:fo7xa54u]"Didn't Andrew say he was going to be here?" Anwyn asked. "We might want to have a talk with him."[/p:fo7xa54u]
