[p:3qx2e1k3]"Convenient," Serj stated as he rose to his feet. He stood next to Marcus on a winding walkway, but they could barely see each other. The bright morning sunlight reflected on a thick fog that clouded the entire base of Neo-Pandemonium, limiting visibility to a few feet at best. They had no maps, no floor plans of the colossal structure--nor could they. The internal labyrinth of the Akigiyama base changed form on a regular basis, rendering navigation neigh impossible without insider help at the highest level. Regular employees, after all, could only access navigation guides to what they needed. Its true depths had only been penetrated once, by members of the Freedom Fighters long absent. Luckily for these two, no thorough exploration was needed. The information they were looking for was classified, but it was, Marcus hoped at least, casual enough for lower level access. After all, they weren't saving the world, just looking for some hint of Akigiyama relations to the UCPA.[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]And so up the ramp they began. It lead to a loading bay - an import/export station, with relatively low security on normal days. There would be guards about though, and brawn alone was not going to get the job done. It didn't matter if they were discovered so long as they could get the information and escape. Andrew and Glenn's diversion served this purpose well enough. With Kaiser out of the picture, their detection would only cause a casual alarm, the sort that thieves and thugs triggered regularly on information-gathering expeditions. So long as Kaiser didn't have the foresight to expect the Freedom Fighters, security SHOULD be at a normal level...[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]...But of course it wasn't. From the best vantage point they could reach without being detected, they scoped out the loading bay. It was filled with crates stamped Ohio, the last shipment to Karn. It was also filled with high level swat forces. Marcus was dressed in an Akigiyama uniform, but these weren't the kind of guys you could talk your way past.[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]"Jeez," Marcus whispered. "They haven't sent everything out yet."[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]"I take it this isn't normal?" Serj waved towards the guards.[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]"Do you know how many people on the black market would love to steal this gear?" Marcus replied. "They're at top security until all this crap ships."[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]"Get back." The two dropped to the ground and disappeared into the fog at the side of the walkway as a patrol made its way down the stairs and back up again.[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]"Any ideas?" Marcus whispered.[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]"It depends. How fast can you work?" Serj directed his gaze to an open area in the far corner of the bay.[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]"Pretty fa---" A barely visible blast of light shot out from Serj's hands, and the far wall of the bay exploded. "What the hell are you doing?!"[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]"Go!" Serj yelled, and Marcus didn't wait. Smoke from the blast filled the room so fast that he was able to bolt inside and up a ramp without detection, behind a glassed-off upper walkway filled with switches. He froze momentarily before continuing. As the dust started to settle a giant beast stood in the middle of the room. It looked like a twenty foot tall white gorilla with giant horns twisting down in front of its head, and as it slammed its fists into the ground the whole bay shook. It reared back on its hind legs and roared so loud Marcus had to cover his ears.[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]"Let's get the hell out of here," a random employee yelled towards Marcus, the settling dust conveniently hiding his potentially recognizable features. Marcus ran up behind the man to a sliding door, and followed through as he punched in a security key to open it. A dozen high-powered rifles opened up on the beast behind him.[/p:3qx2e1k3]
[p:3qx2e1k3]People were running in every direction in the corridor beyond. Marcus spotted an officer's uniform and followed in the confusion. This was a big enough incident to call in highest security with or without Kaiser, and someone like this would be the type to order it. The same panel would probably have the information he needed, but could he get the job done in time to navigate back out before the whole building locked down, before the best of Akigiyama stood between him and the exit? And what the heck kind of magic did Serj know, he wondered, to summon a beast like that? Plans never go as expected, but this was one hell of a way to wing it.[/p:3qx2e1k3]

NDR: Yeah, given the state of MD I'm truncating this break-in significantly. We can do a full sub-plot break-in in some future chapter. :P Marcus just needs to find some sort of contract indicating that the weapons were financed by a third party; the details can be analyzed by Watts once he and Serj escape. LK, if you want to write Marcus getting the information and fighting his way back towards the exit I can write the final escape, or you can do the whole thing. I intended for the access of this information to take up a full 20-30 post sub-plot (though I hadn't foreseen Neo-Pandemonium), so by truncating it we can probably wrap the entire chapter up in another 10-20 posts!
