Hey All,
Been a while since I've posted anything on here. I guess with a bit of good reason too, seeing as how Konami has been pretty silent about the console Suikoden series and its continuation. I picked up Tierkreis in hopes of that ol'fashioned Suiko feel, but to be honest, I was a little disappointed with their overall efforts on the game. Not that it wasn't a high calibur effort on K's part. Its just that I'm old school, and feel that the Suikoden games need the memory and power of a console to fully do the game justice. An on that note, this leads me to question what is happening at the Konami camp in regards to Suikoden VI? There have been ample rumors, speculations and mudsliging over which console it will be on. Me personally, I really hope that it stays a playstation brand. It would just feel odd playing a Suikoden game with a different controller ( another beef I had about Tierkreis, ds = too small).
But more than just the console the game would be on, I would really love to see Suikoden de-volve back to more of its classical roots in certain ways. 1st, I would really love to see the game actually be a sequel rather than a prequel. Enough of the 'this is the past' storylines. It leaves a lot of the suspense and tension out, because most fans are aware of the past plots / characters, and what they've done up until now. So the element of mystique is somewhat lost in a prequel. 2nd, I would really like to see the loading of older saved data onto the new game weigh in a bit more heavily. In the last few games, there really wasn't much of an advantage to do this. I believe you only got a new book added to the library... Where as compared to SII when you could play as McDohl, that's pretty weak. 3rd, I would really like to see some characters finalized or developed further. Pesmerga / Yuber for example. Yuber was great in SIII, but was still not as developed as I would have liked. Also, what's happened to Viktor and Flik? All my female gamer friends LOVE those two, and if Konami wants to please the gamergirl crowd, bringing them back is definitely a tip of the hat for them. 4th, I would just like the game to actually be announced and come out in the next 5 years. We've waited a while, and I'm growing tired of waiting, and replaying 1-5 over and over again... What do you guys/gals wish for?

If they give me the following I'll be happy:

1) Great story dealing with a war between large groups. Make it set after Suikoden 2 and 3 and we're golden.

2) 108 recruitable characters composed of both new and old characters from Suikoden 1/2/3/5

3) Headquarters that grows with you as you gain more and more new characters and doesnt reach its full potential unless you recruit a large number of characters.

4) Some fun minigames that make you want to grow your castle and gain new followers. Examples include: Cooking minigame for the chef, a theater for performing plays in with your characters, a confession room (one of the few good things about suikoden IV), an arena to have 1 on 1 duels with your followers you've recruited (and even some cameo appearances by other characters, maybe from other Konami games), Detective, etc.

5) A way to choose who your main character ends up with at the end, like out of a handful of girls, you influence through choices who that ends up being. Throw in a dating mini-game with fully voiced dialog between you and some of the girls and I'm in heaven, sorta like Thousand Arms for the PSX.

6) Going back to the last one, give me a romance sub-plot that makes my heart get tugged on. I love romance options in my RPGs.

7) Lastly, give us some great bonuses by loading up Suikoden data we have stored and make the bonuses awesome, atleast 2 or 3 new characters, new dialog, new weapons, new plays and stuff to use in the mini-games, etc. maybe even an alternate ending.

Here's what I want:
No more prequels- must be post III, 108 stars mostly new with a few returns, a homebase with a purpose like Budehuc but not necessarily that style, good mini games like cooking and plays, either a confession room or better detective who actually tells you something you'd want to know, but most importantly resolution to some long unanswered questions.

I'm iffy about the dating idea. Maybe if it was just a minigame that had as the prize a dinner with another character, but not specifically in a romantic context. It would be funny to see what the other characters would make of the "date" and how the hero would react. Like some would try to be all romantic and some might just reveal more about themselves.

If it features a single hero and not more like in III, I think incorporating a romance subplot for the hero would be too much. It's better to leave those connections up to speculation, considering how many different opinions fans have on the heroes' interactions with the other characters. Even with III, people all feel differently about those characters' potential relationships. Maybe a romance plot for a lesser-but-still-important character?

I'm just not sure how much of the hero's personality should be "guided" like it would be with an actual romance. A lot of the appeal of Suikoden is that things like that are left for the player to fill in or not as they see fit.

Although at this point I'd be ok with almost anything as long as it's a full game.

Keep it customizable.

If there is a returning falcon rune user, have it be Valeria (lol, joke? I guess an all-new character roster would be better, but maybe have it be Valeria's daughter or something!)

Make more use of the "empty spaces" as I noticed that a lot in all 3D Suikodens but haven't pointed it out. Doesn't it seem like there's certain places that are super empty? There's loads of running for no reason. At least Final Fantasy made the emptyish places pretty enough to admire. Even if a space is ugly or boring give it more detail!

I dunno much else. I guess I'd like to see more of Jeane and Vicki as they always seem to bring light when its gloomy. Maybe like a Vicki from S5 but even stronger than before. Have her be crucial to the game (master teleportress) but not available til almost its ending chapters?

Oh and I really liked the theatre. Maybe they can add more to that, or even a musical with real singing this time.

#1. Graphical Style similar to Tales of Vesperia, however more overhead/zoomed out like Suiko I/II/V. I feel like this graphical style is a perfect fit for Suikoden and the Suikoden "feel". The graphics are 3 dimensional yet retain the charm of sprites. Truly beautiful and I think the natural graphical progression for the series. Youtube Tales of Vesperia if you're not familiar with it.

#2. Return to "softer" music and, more notably, soundeffects. Not softer in terms of volume, but I found many of the soundeffects and music in Suikoden V to be "harsh". A return to a warmer/softer/rounder soundset a la Suikoden II would be nice. Again, youtube suikoden II and V for comparison.

#3. Better UI and all around menus/equipment/rune system. SVs was abysmal and I'm not sure why those decisions were made or who was in charge of them.

#4. No more jarring cutscenes with bad voiceacting. With a few notable exceptions that were very well executed, I found nearly all of the cutscenes in SV to detract rather than add to the experience. They were jarring and took me our of the experience and made it impossible to have that "suspension of disbelief." Unless a game is going for a truly cinematic experience (IE. Mass Effect) I don't think it's neccesary. I *WANT* to feel like I'm playing a video game when I play suikoden, not watching a interactive movie. I'm not sure if it's just me, but just about all of my favorite/most impactful scenes were in engine scenes/dialogues.

#5. Better plot events. I loved SV, however IMO the towns and tradgedies and plot events really can't compare to Suikoden I or II. I can't explain it, but rather than appreciating much of the game, I found myself merely rushing through to get to the next, and hopefully better, plot event. Also, feeling like I'm actually losing the war ever might be nice. SI/II you always felt like the massive underdog and victories felt meaningful and amazing. Lucretia was just too good.

#6. Make the attack runes actually useful, so regular attacks & their chance of criticals/multiattacks don't end up ruling the entire game. Additionally, make the low level spells actually worthwhile? I think this has to do with the pacing.

#7. Stick with a cast of characters. As much as everyone loves Fliktor, it really wasn't until SII that they really shined! Instead of jumping all around, if S6 incorporates people from S5 and builds on them, that could make for some truly great characters.

#8. War battles more turn based / tactical rather than real time.

#9. A better rune for the hero.

#10. Crowley or Pesmerga :P just bc 10 is better than 9

#11. More fun Unite attack animations. For the most part, they were all pretty boring. Just a little cutscene of each character attacking a few times then another attacking a few times.

# 1. Having the original director of 1 and 2 do number 6.
#2. Having Konami stay the **** out of his way.
# 3. Having anything he (the director) needs in terms of staff or money.
# 4. Having me help in production.
#. 5. Have Konami actually listen to the fans' thoughts, comments, opinions.
#6. Konami actually having the decency and intelligence to put in fans' thoughts, comments and opinions into the game.
# 7. Have Konami stop moving one step forward and two steps back with this franchise. (take a lesson from the other RPG's around or hell...MMORPG's)
# 8. Receiving a translated copy free before its sold in America.

Something like SV would satisfy me. Plenty of room for improvement as mentioned above but overall it was a great suikoden. The duels were the best so far as were the army battles. The formation stance was a great addition too.

Not a prequel as many have said.

A country weve heard of already.

Some major questions answered. Even just the one would be nice.

Harder to battle than SV as it was far too easy. An dont be scared too through in some colossal bosses that may take some planning and preparation to defeat.

Another excellent BGM. Its almost always a given with Suikoden anyway. Preferably closer to the style of SI an SII.

Dont choose graphics over charm.

Loved the hero's weapon, the sansetsukon in SV. It was versatile and deadly, perfect for the duels. Another less traditional martial arts weapon like this would be great, as opposed to a more common weapon, swords, daggers etc. A chain sickle, twin sickles or maybe some up close an personal unarmed and deadly fighting technique.

Release it within two years before dementia gets the best of me.

A good story taking place in the REAL Suikoden world... Other than that I'd be OK with anything really...

i honestly have to agree with everyone on this. there were so many loose ends with characters that i myself would like to understand. like where does viki really come from originally and whats the deal with the dog in sIII being able to see jeane for what she really is? i wanna know what she really is that is between those two. Where viktor and flik went besides meeting up with edge, helping his village and giving him the star dragon sword. theres alot that needs to be answered. also what happend to the flame champion of your choosing from sIII, chris and hugo. there are too many loose ends to just make up new stories. honestly it would have theyre work cut out for them. they have half of peoples stories and the characters already laid out.

secondly i think if the give you the choice to name your character at the begining why not make it so you can make your own character? like how about picking weather its a boy or a girl, the age, where theyre from choosing from Scarlet moon to harmonia to south windows ect. plus get the chance to make up your own rune. if its going to be on either ps3 or x box 360, that shouldnt be a problem. really i think that would be the best thing for suikoden to do make the franchise updated plus give all us older fans what we want storyline wise and character wise. and maybe in there be able to name someone the stars of destiny.

Thats a great idea! Would add even more replay value to the game getting to play through as different heroes each time. Each playthrough might then have slightly different stories, events and dialogue.

The advantage Suikoden has over any other RPG series out there is that it has enough unanswered storyline to last it for years to come. I personally want Suikoden 6 to be about the War of the Succession, with Barbarossa as the Tenkai star and using the Sovereign Rune more than just turning into a 3 headed Hydra. It would be really interesting to see and will almost be like a re-make of Suikoden 1. I guess another good story would be the disintegration of centralized Harmonia into the Kingdom of Dunan, The Scarlet Moon Empire and The Kingdom of Highland.

A cool feature would be to choose where your castle will be on the world map, and put it near landmarks to give you a strategic edge in battle. Putting it in an open field will make Large Scale Battles harder, for example. Speaking of the Large Scale battles, I kind of miss the Suikoden 2 battle system where it was more like chess, where each soldier on the field represented a unit and forests and other landmarks could get in your way of positioning troops. The should make it like that in Suikoden 6 but take it a step further in making more obstacles to get around, or make the environment reactive to certain commands you do during battle. Like if you had a Mother Earth rune, you can have the power to change the environment of the large scale battle. It's an interesting concept at the least.
