[size=150:p3kxq2ty]093 - A Hard Rain

[p:p3kxq2ty]"Michael Toby, ladies and gentlemen," an anchorman announced, as the Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives took to the platform.[/p:p3kxq2ty]
[p:p3kxq2ty]"Hello," a short, grey-haired man of at least seventy spoke into a microphone, his voice the emotionless rhythm of a news anchor of his generation. "You may not know me, but I speak on behalf of the elected representatives of the nation of Ohio. A joint consensus agreed to the disclosure of the following information." Karn sat smuggly in a chair behind him on the platform, accompanied by a dozen or so faces familiar at least to the region. The decision to not deliver his address directly spoke volumes in defiance. The scene did not dwell on this image for long, however, before switching to a mug shot of Samuel Reynolds' assassin, the first to be publicly displayed. The collar of a One Nation uniform rose up below his neck, a propaganda display like no other as it was clearly taken after his arrest.[/p:p3kxq2ty]
[p:p3kxq2ty]"This is the face of the man who murdered Samuel Reynolds." There was a long pause as the dreadful implications of his attire set in. "His allegiance, though not his name, has been confirmed by both our own sources and a prominent member of the Freedom Fighters. Members of One Nation, we encourage you to recognize your own. Here he is, clear as day. Clarance Croft is guilty of the most devious foul play, and must be held accountable. In recognition of this face, we hope that you will denounce this crime against peace and order and follow his lead no further. Thank you."[/p:p3kxq2ty]
[p:p3kxq2ty]The Freedom Fighters were furious, Clarance Croft was furious, and the members of One Nation were merely uncertain. The diehards were enraged at Ohio's belligerence and the Fighters' seeming betrayal, the doubtful were suspicious that they had indeed been fooled all along, and most were simply dumbfounded by such an audacious move, for though rumors spread no one in One Nation openly admitted to recognizing the man. Not on the record; not in the bars; not in confident whispers. By the end of the night it was becoming clear that, whatever Ohio's intent, no one in One Nation had seen him before.[/p:p3kxq2ty]
[p:p3kxq2ty]Glenn for one was torn between the obligation to publicly clarify the conditions of his confirmation, the consequences of an outright half-true denial of the claim, and an honest suspicion that Croft was behind it all.[/p:p3kxq2ty]
