|
|
We're going to play the game a bit differently than we played The French Open Prediction Game. For this one, each person will pick 10 men, and 10 women (you could pick seeds 1-10, but I wouldn't recommend it~), and you are awarded points based on how far each of your choices makes it in the draw. As a bonus, each person will also pick 1 man and 1 woman who is their predicted champion of the tournament. If you pick to correct champion then you will be awarded 25 bonus points!
Here's the point layout:
1 point for your choice participating in Round 1
3 points for your choice participating in Round 2
5 points for your choice participating in Round 3
10 points for your choice participating in Round 4
15 points for your choice participating in the Quarter Finals
30 points for your choice participating in the Semi Finals
50 points for your choice participating in the Finals (but not winning)
75 points for your choice winning the Championship!
+ 25 points if your bonus choice was the winner of the tournament.
I will list the seeds for both the men and women here:

Apologies for the double post-- but for organizational purposes I want this to be a new post. I would also wait for someone else to post their choices, but I figure it would be a good idea for me to set the example.
Men
Roger Federer
Rafael Nadal
Novak Djokovic
Andy Roddick
Richard Gasquet
James Blake
Marcos Baghdatis
Andy Murray
Stanislas Wawrinka
Radek Stepanek
Predicted winner: Roger Federer
Women
Ana Ivanovic
Jelena Jankovic
Maria Sharapova
Serena Williams
Venus Williams
Dinara Safina
Marion Bartoli
Patty Schnyder
Agnieszka Radwanska
Shahar Peer
Predicted winner: Maria Sharapova
The womens' side is really a tossup between like 5 different women!
As for Rafa, he is going to have a very difficult second round against either Ernests Gulbis, the new young Latvian star, or the best young American (who is very talented on grass) John Isner. I'm confident Rafa can pull it out, though. _________________

I had a look at the draw and was a bit disappointed that Rafa maybe has to play vs Gulbis in Round 2 (if both win their first game of course). Actually I wanted to add Gulbis to my list.
Maybe we can play the US Open Prediction game like we did for the French Open.
Here's my prediction list:
Men
Roger Federer (SUI)
Rafael Nadal (ESP)
Novak Djokovic (SRB)
Gael Monfils (FRA)
Fernando Gonzalez (CHI)
Tomas Berdych (CZE)
Stanislaw Wawrinka (SUI)
Paul-Henri Mathieu (FRA)
Mikhail Youzhny (RUS)
Lleyton Hewitt (AUS)
Women:
Ana Ivanovic (SRB)
Dinara Safina (RUS)
Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS)
Jelena Jankovic (SRB)
Elena Dementieva (RUS)
Nicole Vaidisova (CZE)
Vera Zvonareva (RUS)
Agniezka Radwanska (POL)
Nadia Petrova (RUS)
Agnzes Szavay (HUN)
Winners:
Rafael Nadal and Ana Ivanovic |

WOW! Big surprises today. Djokovic knocked out in straight sets by Marat Safin (always dangerous), and Ivanovic just barely managed to win her match. This looks to be an interesting Wimbledon.
I feel like I should have bet on one of the Williams sisters to win it, now. I'm starting to feel like it's their year to win it again.
I'm glad I didn't bet on Davydenko, either. _________________

Yeah, the good thing is nobody is ahead by that much because we all had Djokovic. Archy's the one who got hit the hardest by that as he was his winner choice. _________________ I'm sorry and I apologize are the same thing.

I have a feeling Round 2 is going to be an absolute killer for predictions! First Djokovic knocked out, followed by Maria Sharapova getting bounced! Not only that, Roddick is down against Tipsarevic, who is a very dangerous floater in these Grand Slams (if any of you remember how he took Federer to that amazing 5-set match at the Australian Open earlier this year). This round is going to be an absolute killer. _________________

Maybe I do better in Football predictions but your Footbal Fantasy Team Skills are way better than mine. :-)
I'm not surprised that Sharapova lost that early in the tournament, that's why I didn't add her to my list (and it seems I was the only one), :P |

I'm wishing I picked Serena as my winner choice-- but her performance can be erratic. I think she can take it this year, though. Looking at Ivanovic's performance in her previous match, she'll either make a complete turn around and win the entire thing, or make a swift departure as well (I think she may not make it past the next round).
edit:
upsets in round 2:
Djokovic
Roddick
Blake
Gonzalez
Sharapova
Hantuchova
Zvonereva
Ridiculous. I'm pretty much shot, here. _________________

I'll be honest here and say Zvonereva was not upset. Tamarine Tanasugarn Is on a hot streak after winning the Ordina Open just prior to Wimbledon. She ousted Dinara Safina to take that, so I don't see that as a huge upset. If Tamarine was one of our pickable options I would have taken her. She's a star waiting to rise.
Also, Blake is rated far too high, he always seems to bow out early in major pressure tournaments. Sure he does well when the world's eyes aren't on him, but put him in a major and he sinks. I picked him because I wanted to pick one American, and I just can't back A-Rod. At least either choice I was screwed, haha.
EDIT: How can Gil have 10 points in mens? He had Djokovic like the rest of us. _________________ I'm sorry and I apologize are the same thing.
