Another year is about to end and we're entering the end-of-year holiday season. I hope each of you enjoy this time regardless of what faith you ascribe to or not subscribe to, or whether or not you avidly participate in the rampant commercialism prevalent during this time of the year (it keeps the economy going, so spend your cash!). Spend some time off of this site and spend some time with your family. That's what I'm gonna do myself, after all. There's nothing on this site that's worth even a hundredth of what real connections with real people are worth.

This year has been another year for Suikox. In 2005 we got hacked to death on December 22nd which forced me to work full-time for about two days to get things back on track. Lets hope we don't have the same shit happen to us again. In 2006, we had the "great crash" wish resulted in us losing about a month and a half of data, which sucked ass.

2007, we moved our site to a new server provided by sandwitch.net, run by the super wonderful Calculus. Since then, I'm sure most people have forgotten the days back when it took forever to load pages. Things run smooth as hell now, and I hope you all like it.

The departure of Axiose is something I still am tryig to recover from. Of course, it was a happy occasion considering how he's been blessed with a baby and all that, but as you can see fuji and myself are still trying to figure out how ol' fluffy used to handle everything. It's seldom that I can say, "man it's hard to get things done without so-and-so" because typically I run sites on my own. When it comes to fluff-meister, I can say dead honest that it's damn hard without him!

This year has also been truly a trial for me, as I've been diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease called "Wegener's Granulomatosis." The disease was featured on one of the episodes of "House" so perhaps some of you have heard of it. I've been on chemo ever since, and oddly enough the initial medication they put me on back in March made me hyper-active (one of those really mind-altering pain killers), and other medication I had had the side-effect of "euphoria." Thus I was constantly high and in a good mood for about three or four months. Now I'm passed that phase and am pretty much back to my old sour and cranky self.
Earlier this month I've been told that my disease is in remission, so everything is nearly back to normal other than all the pills I have to take on a daily basis and the bi-weekly blood tests-- which will probably continue until I kick the bucket. Now I can be all emo and mope around, saying, "woe is me as I have an incurable illness" and write poetry and some such. Anyhow, it's been a crash course in terms of the whole US medical system. Very lucky that I chose the right insurance program before I was diagnosed. Otherwise I'd be bankrupt about now.

So with that said, what do we have in store for Suikox in the coming year?

It's hard to say really. As much as I'd like to continue this site because this community is important for its members, I'm also getting old and time is becoming ever so scarce. Even though I'm running a Suikoden site, I haven't played a single Suikoden game in the last year. Pretty sad to be honest, but you know, it's more than 10 years since I started playing Suikoden, and I've been running Suikoden-related sites since 2000. I feel my interests shifting to stuff that people at my age are more interested in-- such as topsoil, gardening, golf, mutual funds, lion taming, and pickup trucks. Aging is a horrid, horrid thing. Treasure your youth, folks. It only happens once, and when the last drop of youth slips away from the tips of your fingers, it will never return again and the rest is a roller-coaster down into purgatory.

However, all is not lost. Send me all of your cash and you will be saved! Well, donations are always appreciated, after all. It's not entirely cheap to run this site, and knowing that people care does help jack up my motivation, and cash does motivate me, oh yes it does, sirs and ma'ams.

Right now fuji and myself (well, mostly fuji) is working on porting this forum over to phpbb3. Phpbb3 has a ass-load (and that's a lot) of more features and will make things easier for us admin types and the greenies (mods). Many different types of bannigs!

Of course, the problem is that our current iteration of the forum (phpbb2) has been hacked to death by yours truly in a wondefully chaotic fashion to the point that I often have no idea what I did. That's how I typically code--I just type a bunch of stuff until it somehow works. Fuji can attest to that as he's seen my scripting. It's a big mess. Bringing the stuff over to phpbb3 would be a tough task. I'll definitey bring Yuber the bot-killer with me though. He's been really effective.

Bringing the forum into the future will introduce changes to how things work. Fuji and myself are working on a new nation system that would make things more interesting even for the newer members. We recognize the problems of the current nation system (especially the problems that cause a lot of headaches for ME), and will try to resolve it with the new recode. No idea how long that would take though, as we're entering a completly new frontier.

Of course, Konami getting off of their ass and announcing the next Suikoden sure would help the site...

Anyhow, that's my year-end rant. Oh yes, I will be flying to Japan in about 12 hours, so I will be prett scarce for a while. A bunch of people are waiting on the other side of the Pacific to meet me and I'm not sure how much net-time I will have while I'm in Japan. Don't expect this phase (18) to go very fast!

:::FIRST:::

And a very enjoyable Yuletide to you as well. Enjoy your time with your family, and if you decide not to come back, Vex, no big loss; I'm sure I can step up, do something, and make the site into the theocracy of Ley I always wanted it to be. If you decide to come back, then again, no big loss. What I'm trying to say, is don't let any damn snakes onto that plane.

The "Great Crash" was perhaps one of the only months in which I actually posted. Isn't it a pity when old age hits you and your memory fails as to what the hell you actually were doing yesterday, as opposed to a month lost to us all. If anyone decides to hack us, find out where they life, and I'm sure we can arrange SOME way to deal with them.

I miss those days of old when you'd double, triple, quadruple post waiting for the server to load something.

Things'll run smoother once you manage to settle into a routine that excludes him. This is what I've been trying to point out for YEARS; Reliance of other people only results in weakness and complacency.

I've been missing your cranky, against the world self. Glad to hear it's back. If you end up on a high again, just come to me, and I bet you any money that within five minutes you'll be back to your old self. Who can forget when I asked you whether you'd allow me to explore my sock drawer? I've forgotten, but I'm sure you've not. On a side note, is now the right time to point out that a socialist period is good for all countries, as long as they enact a nationalized health service, then get the hell out of dodge? If you ever get to the point where America does your head in, come to the UK, we'll look after you.

More sock drawer adventures? The Leyland Theocracy? A regiment that actually suits my stats?

Don't forget the rolling down streets on a mechanised barstool at 50MPH just because you drank too much and thought it would be fun.

I believe I tried that, but all bribing you with money did was get me Scarlet as a nation leader, so I'm averse to giving you more in case you make me one, which goes against my principle of never doing anything of use.

YAY Bannings. Mayhaps I be first to test it out?

Yuber are the win. If it makes life easier just drop what we don't need, and start afresh.

I have a suggestion...Have a true world war. Seperate people based on actual nations of origion, and in America, into states, because we all know they're just like countries. Though you can feel free to ignore me.

Have fun, and don't forget, mention the words: Al Qaeda, Bin Laden, bomb, snakes or High grade WMD. If you mention ALL of those words, your journey will end faster

You realize if you want money, all you have to do is put up a paypal button on the main site. And then mention it on the forum. Because no one visits the main site anymore.

Really looking forward to that upgrade to 3. Though I hope not too much is lost, I'm excited to see what upgrades you have in mind. But I know what a pain it can be to have to rehack the forum, I've experienced that happening at another site before.

And enjoy your time in Japan.

There's a main site? Wow, learn something everyday!

Anyway I have enjoyed this year as many new people came into the forums and many new nations were born all of whom make the site feel even cooler and I get to look a pretty flags and NPCs!

Phpbb3? Damm that sounds like a load of work! But I can't wait for it because it'll be fun chaos!

Next year will be as chaotic, fun, and weird as my last two! Can't wait and happy holidays to everyone!

I remember the great crash! I remember before I was like "yay I finally made 300 posts!" in IRC and Sage was like "big deal" and I was like "my next goal is 301!" and he was like "that's setting your standards high >_>".

Wait, that makes him sound sour... ):

I also remember slow Suikox! And how you only saw your sig and avatar one time per page. And a lot of things. Like when regiments were usergroups. And when you saw stats on the side of posts.

Nostalgia.

Well, happy holidays, Suikox! My holidays will be different this year without my grandpa, and we're not doing the gift exchange with my cousins, and the annual sleigh ride is during the day and not at night, and there will be missing a few people. <_< But the actual suppers will be good! Too bad I'm on this nutrition thing so I'll have to watch what I eat...

I'd just like to chime in and also say...Happy Holidays suikox! :o
Nah...sorry...I don't have anything sort of touching to say....except...
This site has had it's up and downs but I do hope suikox shall continue to overcome any such obstacles thrown towards it and thrive! Even if on the Konami side things are quiet.

Again Happy Holidays. And have fun and enjoy yourself over there Vex!
hey I'll be traveling to that side of the world in a few days too lol

This has been my first real year here on SuikoX. It's had ups and downs, sure, but I've no less greatly enjoyed it. Thank you Vex. You've brought us a wonderful site. I've seen a few changes. New nations, stats no longer next to every post all that such.

Vex. Have a happy holidays and safe flight.

Thanks for the Yule tide message :)

If anyone can sort the coding out and move it to PhBB3 the Fuji is the man for the job, he's one of those computer wizz kids you see getting beaten up in the playground and then grow up to become Bill Gates.

That's really good news :)

And your worried about the future of the site and the funding? Fear not, just turn the main page into a Wiki site with official information and updated Nation System information with a paypal donation thing at the top and your done, no work for you and more money, it's win win :)

I also wish all members and lurkers here at Suikox a happy yuletide season whether you celebrate the Baby Jesus or not :)

Happy Holidays to all and a thanks to Suikox for not fading away. This has been a year of pain, a year of joy and a year of change, most of which I will probably forget (or shunt into the rarely accessed section of my memory).

It is also a year in which I finally got off of my ass and really got started on a project I've been wanting to do for the better part of this decade. Some know what I'm talking about, while most will have no clue. I like it that way. Naturally, this will divert a fair amount of my attention from Suikox but, after nearly four years, I think you guys are probably sick of me being around as much as I have been, that you'll be welcoming such a break.

Just don't expect me to disappear, as I'm not planning on it.

Anyway, keep safe and don't do anything Dukat would do.

Happy Merry to everyone at SuikoX. Make sure you [as in 'everyone'] take time out to celebrate family, and your blessings and revel in the spirit of the season.

And don't forget to envy those of us who will be at the beach on Christmas Day. *waves~!*

That's like my favorite button.

I remember back in the day. Things are very different from back then. Zexen has changed so much since I was new. It's astonishing.
