I was looking up videos on YouTube and come across the History of Suikoden. It's a TV spot for Japan and I wasn't able to come across anything with subtitles, so I figured I'd post this link and ask if someone would mind putting some in, or writing a script out to it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5WU16TEf_Q

It would be much appreciated, and interesting to see what actually is said in it.

I just thought his character was funny, he just ran through the races and history of the games, not much else. I did like the way he vanished at the end though.

This has been around since Suikoden 5's pre-release.

The old guy is indeed hilarious (since I don't understand Japanese, I add my own dialogue).

When I saw it, I just remember thinking about how if the video were real life, the guy wouldn't disappear at the end of the video, he would lure the three kids into his van with promises of candy. Don't those kids know better than to talk to strangers?

That was moderately silly. I don't understand what the guy is saying, but the scenes were coming up in random orders, so they either weren't related to what the guy was saying, or it wasn't linear. It didn't seem to be too much of a history, based on the visuals, but I don't know how well they correspond to what the guy was talking about. It was kind of fun to watch though.

I got bored and translated about half of it. The old man was making me sleepy, so I gave up on most of the middle part, but he didn't say anything you don't already know if you've ever played a Suikoden game.

Anyway, here's my sloppy translation (speakers aren't marked, but pretty easy to figure out from the video):

"hey, is that thing really here?"
"It is! It was shining somewhere around here."
"Maybe you're just mistaking something because of the reflection here!"
"Let's try looking just a little bit longer."
"Here it is!"
"Really?!"
"Look, look!"
"How pretty!"
"Whoa!"
"Give it back! You could already see it!"
"No way! If you want it, try and get it back!"
"I said give it back! Give it back!"
"Are you okay?"
"Hahaha! Looking for this?" (I think? he speaks funny)
"Give that back. It's ours."
"Do you kids know what this ball is?"
"Is there something special about that ball?"
"This is a powerful object."
"Powerful?"
"That's right. Have a seat."
"This is actually a round seal. A rune is sealed inside.
This is not an object from this world. It's from the illusionary world as told in Suikoden."
"Illusionary?"
"Suikoden?"

(cue old man talk!)
"Genso Suikoden is a world told of in tales. In this world, there is a Queendom ruled by a Queen,"
"an empire controlled by a court, a republic established by its citizens,"
"and a country with a grassland nation."
"In addition to humans, there are elves, dwarves, the wing horde, Kobolds, Nekobolds, and beavers, and various other tribes."
"With continents, islands, deserts, and more, there is no one out there who knows everything about this vast world."

~~~
(I got bored and skipped this part. The old dude is just talking about the basics of runes, the hero recruiting various types of people, etc etc... if you've ever played a Suikoden game, you already know this stuff, so I skipped it)
~~~
(skip to 8:02)
"Now then, what are you guys going to do with this power?"
"Compete over it? Bother this little lady with your arguing?"
"I'm sorry about before."
"Okay, now we've made peace!"
"Hahaha! As expected of friends!"
"Never forget how to forgive others."
"I'll never forget."
"Well, then. Our other friends have finally come out."
"Whoa! Pretty."
("And so a new story begins...")
"The depth of one's deeds will snatch away loved ones."
("The things snatched away...")
("A power unintentionally turned to sorrow...")
"Genso Suikoden V. Rescue it all."

.... so, yeah, it's basically a commercial for Suikoden V that's long enough to talk about the other games in the series, too.

Leon Silverberg would never be so jolly.
