I assuming it was a joke, on the whole copywrite thing. It's not like it was a huge secret, anybody who's played Path of Radiance, then looked at the Being's of Light from the Makanakuy thing would be able to tell who it is.

Yeah, we've known about the avatars for a while, at least I have. Someone posted a link to all the Tear Saga (or whatever) characters in the Links forum a while back.
Don't change them though, they rock. Plus, we'll have to get used to new avatars...
If you have to though, use stick figures. Make them using MS Paint!

Which is why it has to be changed. You don't want people thinking "That NPC is so-and so from blah-blah game." It affects the ambiance and overall "mystique" of the character, etc. Likely is just a pet peeve of mine, but at least a few others probably feel the same way. |

Seriously?
Not to make an ass of myself, but personally I thought "Oh, that's cool" and moved on, and it certainly never damphened any appeal of the character for me. (Then again, admittedly my interest in the non-Gaien NPCs is so low it would be quite hard for it to get much lower.) I can't really see where knowing where the artwork comes from makes the story any less interesting. :?

If you associate an original character to an already existing character you may forever, whether unconsciously or consciously, think the original character IS the existing character.
It's like if you're watching two different movies (and I mean totally different movies, different plots, etc) but the main characters act similar/look similar. You can't help but compare one to the other.
