Jerry Falwell dead at age 73

You all knew that at some point this thread would be coming, it hasd very little to do with his death and more about the reputation he had, and the life he led. Some might know him for his deep rooted religious beliefs, some might know him for his deep rooted opinions on homosexuality, while of course most people will know him for his "outing" of the purple teletubbie. Oh and politically he is also known for creating the political organization "Moral Authority", and his anti abortion views atop everything else.

So anyways as for how he died he was found a few days ago in his office without a heartbeat, and was taken to hospital where they failed to rescucitate him. He was pronounced dead, and then that news was spread to the media and people began to make many many comments that some might see as uncalled for. On one forum, I saw people going so far as to celebrate his passing which aside from anyone on par with Hitler no one should react this way. In my opinion whether you like him or hate him, you should never be glad for a persons passing, thats just... well I wont say what I would about that.

So, what is everyones opinions on his death, the man himself, and the reactions some people are having towards this mans death.

It may sound kind of insensitive, but I'm am not in any way saddened by this death, and I almost celebrated it. I don't believe this thread is intended to be a bashing thread for his beliefs, so I won't extend it too much farther than this-- but any man who uses faith to spread hate gets an automatic black page in my book. I'm not fond of the man, no. Not at all.

Sorry but i am happy the bastard is dead.

I hope he died painfully and is rotting in some form of hell for the rest of eternity, although that might still be too good for him.

This sounds horrible but when you are so homophobic and intollerant that you actually acuse a fictional character that is'nt even male or female of being gay for having a handbag, then you wont catch me mourning his death anytime soon.

The "Moral Authority" says it all. Im right and your wrong was clearly his stance in this world and its people that him that are slowing down progress in our society.

What can I say. I feel bad for the people that loved him (I'm sure there had to be some) His death must've saddened some people, but for the most part, I agree with everyone else. The world's better off without him...

I didn’t know enough about Jerry Falwell to hate him but from the responses that I’m seeing it doesn’t seem like it would be all that hard to do if I would have been paying any attention to what he was saying.

Up until I heard a program on Wisconsin Public Radio I didn’t know a thing about Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority. The story that they gave was that he really wanted to cause a polarizing effect on people so that you would either really like him or really hate him. I guess it just gave him a reason to keep going if he had a large group of people that hated him to a great extent. That’s a pretty sad way to live your life.

I try not to hate anyone, and I didn't hate Falwell (you have to know someone to hate them). But I do believe his ideology was dangerous and I think its better that there's one less vocal supporter of bigotry around.

I don't know much about him. But i guess that i wouldn't like him , from the articles i read about him, and also from the posts in this thread. But the only regret that can be made about his death was that he didn't change his views before he passed away.
