Everyone knows Babbage, the slightly eccentric gear lover from Estrise, right?

Well, I found where he came from.

Charles Babbage the inventer of the very, VERY first computer.

I wonder more if Charles Babbage liked his cogs as much as the Suikoden Babbage did.

I always assumed this was well known, like how Levi is named after Eliphas Levi.

There's only ever been one reference to a character from another Konami game in the Suikoden series and that's Oleg.

Well, Crowley probably refers to Aleister Crowley, though I can't be sure. Anyway, I already knew about that, but it's cool.

That's been known for a while. Mazus was also named after Aleister Crowley's real life teacher McGregor Mathers.

recently found out about Charles Babbage as well. It's nice that Konami has such references in their games. It's very much cultural to do so. ^^ They tend to use famous names for some people, so that's a little tidbit to know where they came from...

In hindsight, the overused name of Sasuke comes from the famous ninja, Sarutobi Sasuke. ^^

Well, i guess you could say that. ^^ Sasuke is somewhat monkey-ish even in his stance.

I also have a suspicion that Fuma is a reference to the Fuuma clan of Ancient Japan. Particularly a certain Fuuma Kotaro...

Well... Fuma, Sasuke, Hanzo and even Kage to some extent (because of its direct relation with "shadow", I presume) are all the basic names of fictional shinobi. You could find those in practically all over the whole ninja entertainment literature.

Search for Babbage on Google and see what your first result is. :D I reckon that people just search for Suikoden character names and come up with all sorts of connections.
