Stats Bar (of changing colors!) [formerly "V:?"]

Not sure if this goes here or in error report, since I'm not sure if it's a feature or an error ;) But I'm getting a thick, light blue band across the left column in a post, just under the member's avatar. The only thing on this band is a bold V: and nothing else. I'm sort of confused.

This is the code for the part of the band with the V:, on the off chance it's important.

Yeah,i think the admin is experimenting with the stats,because 5 minutes ago i saw the stats tags and the V:.Anyhoo,i dont think this is an error. :wink:

It's just a test at the moment, I'm sure SARS will tidy it up or change the layout later once he gets the coding perfected on it.

Yeah he will probably make the box black instead of blue to give it a cleaner look. Then it won't be so dominating.

Getting the stats to work somehow took longer than I thought do to a careless error in the code.

It looks ugly especially because the size doesn't fit with the avatar. It seems to be about 140 pixels wide and that is sucky. I also want to clean the junk on the lower portion so that everything fits nice and tightly.

Not sure if this is important or not, but I just noticed that the box sometimes has numbers off by one from the profile. Do they perhaps round differently?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. However, I havn't been able to pinpoint where exactly the rounding is off.

Just a thought, but abbreviating Level and Karma would help to consolidate the stat box a bit. Lvl, Krm/ Kma something along those lines. I doubt anybody would mind.

Perhaps Lvl: and Kar:, respectively. Krm and Kma look sort of confusing, though I do agree with you that appreviations would help.

Perhaps also a fixed font? So the letters line up and you don't need an extra TD? Not sure if that'd actually help any, but it might make it look neater.

I think he means a fixed-width font, like Courier New. So all of the stats would take up the same amount of space, except I guess for HP because it is only two letters.

Are you sure a feature like this isn't going to soon slow down the boards? More db calls for each thread has got to be taxing on the system.

Precisely what I meant by a fixed font. Sorry, Kornholio's right, the actual name is fixed width font. I tend to call them fixed and variable fonts, because I'm too lazy to say width :)

There's no added DB calls for this feature, because the calculation script exists right in the viewtopic.php. Stats are not stiored in the database at all. If that was the case, the board will grind to a halt!
