Well I would have to agree with you there. Although I love the variety of other races, I think they should stop adding races because it'll get more and more complicated in making other suikoden games if they focused on adding new races to every suikoden(part one had kobolds dwarves and elves, part two I don't own, part three added lizards and ducks, part four had mermaids and nay-kobolds, and now part five will have BEAVERS out of all animals they chose beavers). I hope they stop adding new races.(not too soon though but when it's suitable.)

The diversity amount races and personalities is always a plus to me. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I just like being able to give various characters the same situation, and have them react based on their upbringing. Points like the elves always being withdrawn and wanting to stay out of the fray. Then you have agressive races like the lizards, who'd rather just charge into the fray and be done with it. Whiile i won't say I've liked all the races that have been introduced, it's nice to have them. Sure they'll miss sometimes with designs, but they'll hit a good one too. Just have to wait and see how things go. I think the last thing they want to do is just hault the idea of new races and just keep reusing the same ones over and over. In the end it would just be boring, really.

Beaver people still arent as bad as ducks, man.

The voice acting was a huge thorn in my side in Suikoden 4 as much as I thought it would be..except for the neo-kobold voices (simply attrocious)

Of course we'd all be happy with an option to leave in Japanese voices or keep the Engish ones, but realistically we just have to hope that they do a good job.

Im still kinda scared as to what they will do with the beavers in general.
But I totally agree that they shoulda simply stayed with Dwarves, Elves, Kobolds, and Wingers. Okay, okay, the lizardmen were halfway decent....But W-H-Y ducks?!?

whose crackpot idea was that anyway. at least Landis was in 3, a winger! yea! and a sociopath winger at that.

What about Bob? (anyone seen that movie?)

Do I got it right that he is the last of his race? he was sooooo cool too.
imagine a village of werewolfs with todays graphics....it'd look like something outta Castlevania!

It's good that Konami have so many races. It stops them just using over the races of other fantasy series like Elves and Dwarves.

I personally have liked all the races in some way. Talking Ducks are just plain great. Kobolds are quite a neat race and while I don't like Neo-kobolds as much, they complete the opposite side of Kobolds (Dogs and Cats) so in some ways it's a natural progression. Lizards are great and strong warriors. Wingers are also quite a cool race as they are generally regarded as a "lower" race and are looked down upon quite a lot by humans and Kobolds.

Instead of just "having" Dwarves and Elves like everyone else does, Konami have created new races using animals and variations of them. It adds much needed diversity to a fantasy genre.

I think it is too bad the Nay-Kobols do not look more like Vah Shirs. You like big wil cat species such as tiger, lions, cheetahs an puma's an such. That would have made them real cool and more potent fighters. The current Nay-Kobolds have crappy stats in comparison to other characters.

I just hate how the other races are usually restricted to a single village and are sometimes mockeries of themselves. Look at the Nay-Kobold Village.

BTW, Bob isn't the last werewolf, just the last werewolf from his village. There are supposedly more lycanthropes living as third-class slaves in Harmonia. All non-humans are regarded as third-class in Harmonia.

i enjoyed the several races but it was kinda upsetting when they took out kobolds in suikoden 4
nay-kobolds are cute though, i personally would've rather heard of the karaya clan and lizard clan. (did the karaya clan ever rebuild and last or not?)
left me guessing, but anyway same races and stuff would get boring i guess they needed some new element of characters.
108+ characters in each game..... i feel developers were getting tired of so many human look alikes in all their games. (once you've seen one face you've kinda seen them all. get it?)

I don't like those beavers, ducks and nekobolds.
Normal kobolds okay they're kinda cool and the elfs is just another nice one so are the dwarves (to bad we didn't see more of them would be kinda a cool to have dwarf with a big hammer or axe or something like that)

In my opinion i think Konami would put different races in all of its Suikoden games to create a more socially diverse environment, and to also put a bit of flavour into the 108 Stars Of Destiny. I personally would like the Suikoden games to have a more cultural aspect in the Stars Of Destiny rather than to have 108 human characters. Having different races could also create different sorts of tensions/feuds between races in a particular Suikoden country.

If I'm not mistaken, I think that Paula is a half-elf, right? I forget if she is or not.
And I have to agree not to add any more races for now. And they did have a strong nekobold. Remember that tiger guy from one of the earlier suikodens? Or was that just a guy wearing a tiger mask? I forget. I think he was a tiger nekobold. If I'm not mistaken.

But yeah. It has to do with geography.

Fu Su Lu from Suikoden I was just a man who wore a tigers skin over his head. He was not a Nekobold.

So far I've liked all the races that Suikoden has used. Each gave a different feel and environment to the game - the one I liked the least were the Nekobolds. They seemed out of place and odd waring the kind of clothes they did. Their house were quite interesting though.

The Ducks were amazing - Sergeant Jordi was easily one of my favorite characters from Suikoden III. They were warlike though not too much and had a good touch of intelligence which made them seem like they would be good in trading and the like.

Theres different races to give a sense of variation in Suikoden, otherwise it'd be boring narrow RPG style towns with nothing special about them, Suikoden manages to variate well, but I think with the constant additions of new races, they're going a bit too far.

It's just boring and tactless. They're always confined mostly to a single village (with a rubbish name like Village of the Non-Human Race), they all share the exact same attitudes to most nearly everything (and 99% of the time, that attitude is "humans suck"), except for maybe one or two rebellious types who join your cause and they're never that interesting anyway. Nay-Kobolds were a badly done joke, look at their bloody houses!

As much as I like the addition of races or bringing back old ones, I have to agree with JBL here. If you're going to have other races, do it right.

I mean, seriously, Tolkien proved decades ago you can have different races in more than one place! It -can- be done, and he did it! And he was practically the father of modern fantasy, so why are we stuck with several small villages of new races completely unrelated to any of the others? It blows the mind.
