Hey everyone I was just wondering although the Suikoden Series are unique for their storyline/gameplay and the like, I have just been thinking lately, amounst playing Vandal Hearts/Tactics Ogre etc. That It would be so cool if one day a the Suikoden Universe was integrated into a Strategy/Tactical RPG, but not so much a new Suikoden which would anger some Suikoden players that don't like things to change, but to be a sort of side game one could say like a Suikoden: Tactics ala Final Fantasy: Tactics. Of Coarse they couldn't really have the 108 stars of destiny but like I said it could be in the Suikoden game world and with the unique elements flowing throughout the game.
I Could just imagine the great potential a game such as this would have, given how well Tactical RPG's are selling and growing immensly in populariy in the US and pretty much everywhere and Konami made some GREAT Startegy RPG's back in the PSX day. So what does everyone think about this idea? Keeping in mind one department could perhaps work on Suikoden 5 and a separate department could work on Suikoden: Tactics. This would be very similar to the Legacy Of Kain Series as on PS2 one company worked on Soul Reaver 2 and another Worked on Blood Omen 2. I reckon it would be quite possible and a good profit maker sales wise. Well there's my Two cents on a Suikoden Strategy/Tactical based game. Awaitng your responses...

On a side note, I suppose you could say the major battles in Suikoden 2 were Tactical Battles although you didn't really have that much control of the situation and they were few and far between, and the graphics in these battles left a little to be desired. Not that graphics bother me since I like 2D game graphics.
But anyways, Since they experimented with TRPG elements in Suikoden 2 I think they did a decent job there, so I would think there had at least been talks amoung the producers of the game the possible chance of an all TRPG Suikoden and I for one would welcome it as a new idea for the series for at least one game. _________________ “Firbolgs die with honor,” Morten explained as the logs beneath Tavis began to burn. “We don’t beg for mercy. There is a sudden increase in the amount of strategy/RPG hybrids on the market presently, IMO. Personally I'd rather not have a game based on Suikoden II major battle system. It completely ignored the stats and win/lose seems to be based on pure luck. Otherwise, you simply wait around until the story would further itself.
If and only if Suikoden ever decide to make their own version of Tactics, I'd prefer if it does not go down the FFT/TO/Nippon Ichi's route. I found those games to be severely dumbed down through mass unit customization and powerlevelling. Level-up-to-the-max-and-beat-the-boss strategy isn't strategy after all.
Perhaps something similar to Fire Emblem would be more fitting to the Suikoden image, with specialised units and good storytelling style.
That, or Suikoden shouldn't even bother with sRPGs. It's not really worth it, IMO. They might as well start working on relearning how to make Suikoden V the best game yet, if they want to show to the world that they could do just as good without Murayama. |

Yeah I can understand what you mean, but when it comes to konami/Suikoden you know an excellent story is a given and that it would be unique and highly interesting. I wouldn't like the battle system of Suikoden 2 to be anything like the battle system of a Suikoden: Tactics. But I am sure if Konami did make a game like that it could make a name for the Suikoden Franchise for gamers that don't really have any knowledge of what Suikoden is (those poor fools) because like we have discussed and is very evident in sales that TRPG's sell really well these days.
But let's hope Suikoden 4 does really well and they take their time and make a supreme masterpiece that could be Suikoden 5. Oh and back to what I was talking about before, If TRPG crazed fans played a Suikoden: Tactics they would learn to love it and buy Suikoden 5 etc buy the boat full! Well that's just wishfull thinking but it is just a thought. Thanks for your opinion, Thief. |

Well personally - I wouldn't mind either. I love the original Suikoden. And the thing that makes Suikoden so great is, I think, the plot and characters. The gameplay isn't bad, but nothing to rave about. I like it better than the FF series battling. and i loved the unite idea. But Id pefer to play a battle system like Star Ocean on PS2. great game!!!. I really enjoyed Vandal Hearts, VH 2, Azure Dreams. most of Konami's RPGs. I think a tactical RPG would work quite well with Suikoden. But personally I pefer Suikoden to be pretty linear and I like the short battles... the idea of just pressing free will or let go and just ahve the battle over within seconds. Tactical RPGs don't allow for that and it disrupts the story telling process.
I actually disliked the major battles in S2. i pefered the little jumping people is S1. it wasn't tactical at all. it was paper scissors rock pretty much.. But I liked it better than S2. also the Dueling is both S1 and 2 was nice!!!
But in the end - I doubt a tactical Suikoden would sell as well as the current system. I have yet to try the S3 battle sysem etc. So i cant really comment on it. _________________ --------------------------------------------------------

Yeah I would think many people would not mind to see a Suikoden Tactics, granted if it was an additional Suikoden game, meaning they were still going to release a normal Suikoden game like number 5 or what have you, I highly doubt it would be that hard for a separate branch of Konami to work on a game such as this.
I mean, if they could not grant me this wish, I would glady settle for a Vandal Hearts 3, but that really has no chance, so I am gonna have to stick with Suikoden Tactics. These days though Strategy games can be pretty fast paced (which is good) and they are usually known for having great storylines so that part would not be effected. And in some games like Kartia a fair deal of conversation occurs throughout the battle so you do not get bored as you are just battling.
Konami would have great potential in pursuing a game like this, as like I have said before, they would make GREAT sales on it from TPRG lovers (now you gotta admit, there are a lot of these) and Suikoden lovers (lots of these as well). And if true Suikoden fans found out that this game was being made by a different development team, they would not mind because it would not be slowing down production of a new Suikoden.
Oh and I should not of mentioned Vandal Hearts 3, now I want them to make one of them as well. Damn it! That would be so great as well. Yes I know I seem to demand a lot from Konami but I have high faith in them and know they will have lots of good surprises for us in the coming years... _________________ “Firbolgs die with honor,” Morten explained as the logs beneath Tavis began to burn. “We don’t beg for mercy. huh? I've only played FFT through, but I've put ina fair amount of time into TO, but FFT is not at all level up and get the best weapons. For some it may be, on their first playthrough, but it's hardly like that at all. TO is more like that, and disgae is too, but..........Not all srpg's are mass leveling....
and arn't they making a new vandal hearts for the DS? Or is it just a remake? I'm not sure, it said "Vandal Hearts" on a early release schedule...... |

I think it could go the way of Fire Emblem and be very successful. Suikoden should have a feel like you're commaning an army, and a Fire Emblem-esque battle system would give a very good feel of that. _________________

Disgaea has quite a bit of strategy, if you look at the geo stuff. You know, those pyramid things that alter the status of certain colored ground. That had some strategy in it.
I'm a fan of Disgaea. The story is excellent, and there is strategy in it. Some people can choose to ignore strategy, and just level up constantly. Or you could stop and think about things, and find better ways to deal with it than simply relying on your level.
But, I'd like to see Suikoden have a tactics game. Though it would probably be on the GBA or PSP. Maybe DS, but I don't really see much future in that machine. |

No definatelly not as it wouldn't fit in with the story line of Suikoden.....or at least it would be very hard to. As much as I like SRPGS, I think they should stick to their own stories. The reason FF pulls off an SRPG is because the story is not at all tied in with the other FFs.
If you really want to play a Suikoden SRPG, download the SRPG Maker and make it. I'd be happy to try it out but wouldn't want an official one from Konami UNLESS it is a remake of one of the previous games. |

I think Suikoden Tactics is going to be lame..It seems like a rushed title, and on top of that there aren't even any pictures of it on the net...I don't think it's gonna be good too, because the story is going to be recycled off of Suiko4..Eh... _________________ A dream is a story that will never come true |

Actually, there are pictures of it on the net. You can go right to the Rhapsodia & Suikoden 5 Speculation thread right here to view them. _________________ ~ Humbly walk the path of death

Indeed, I did get my wish. It is funny how things can change (especially certain people's opinions!) I cannot wait for this game to be released, and by then I am sure this thread will explode. Rhapsodia is the Japanese name for the game, as many of us know, so this will be the correct thread for it. I made it so very long ago...and yes, my dream that I had envisioned for quite a long time, has come true. So, only a few more days, and this game will officially be released. I live in Australia, and much like the situation with Suikoden 4, I will definitely import this game from my supplier in the U.S. I have been meaning to make a decently sized import order for some time, and Suikoden Tactics and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance are high on my list. The share so many similarities, it is not funny.
It fills me with delight how quickly my hopes did come true, because my original post was made just over a year ago, and that is not a very long time for someone's wishes to come to pass. I really have to track down my Suikoden 4 save data, so I can load it when I start my Suikoden Tactics game. When I actually finish Tactics, I doubt that it will be long until I replay the game, with the New Game+ option that becomes available. Just a few more days until it is released...well, it would actually take a few weeks to ship to me, so I probably won't play it until towards the end of November, or early December. I have no idea when it will be released in Australia and PAL countries, but my bet is it will come out some time early on in 2006. Hah, and no way in hell would I allow myself to wait that long! Heh, later all. See you all very soon, in this topic... My posts in this topic (and everyone else's!) should go down in Suikox history...
