I think that Emperor Barbarossa retired from the scene with a lot of style. His and Windy's deaths were spectacular.

Then, of course, Gremio, Nanami and Jowy, three people I couldn't absolutely afford to let die!

The duel with Han Cunningham was a battle i really savored, getting to take on Genkaku's old adversary/comrade and lay him to rest. Han died the warriors’ death, honorable and fitting, being sent to Valhalla by Genkaku's former student.

The death of the unknown female villager in ryube sticks in my mind as it sets the tone for Luca. When you see it, it shows that Luca is ruthless in the extreme and for me it enhanced the emotional feeling of the game especially towards Luca. He is not just a typical villain with different logic and values, "I am sublime! I am the true face of evil!" probably sums it up.

Luca's death was incredible. The first few times i played s2 i found this battle really difficult and the enemy so imtimidating. It all added to the occasion, trying to build up a force to take on one man. I even lost the duel once to him, after scraping my way past the 3 previous battles. When you finally destroy the king, he just laughs in your face!!

True! I deeply despised Luca, but as a villain he definitely is the most fearsome one among the games and anime I've seen so far. I often think about how he could have killed Pilika...He would have, and it's just terrible. That alone shows how bad he is, the fact that you have to deal with him contributes a lot to Suikoden 2's greatness. I mean, I felt like Windy or even Luc were a lot less compared to him. I mean, one who laughs at your face when he's dying...!

Thats right! The pilika moment! That was a pretty shocking scene. You know he would have no problem halving the child. Was just waiting in horror for him to bring the sword down through her.

Yeah they'l have a hard job topping Luca. Like you said, the other villains are much less in comparison. Childerich was a decent effort, but face to face with Luca, he may have released his bowels.

Suikoden 1 spoilers abound

I like Millich's death in S1 if you choose to kill him. It's very bittersweet and revealing of a lot of your characters. For one thing Camille being the one to kill Millich was one of the things that spawned my Gremio/Camille theory. Second of all it feels so wrong as it plays out knowing it wasn't millich but the black rune that killed Gremio and yet it feels so Justified. Ironically killing millich means never being able to bring Gremio back.

I must say i cried my eyes out(a 20 year old guy) at the end scene of S3( the good one with Luc, Sarah, and Leknaat)

Mainly because my best friend whom I played all of 1,2 and most of 3 with passed away in a car wreck our senior year in 04.
I couldnt bear to play the rest of 3 until over a year later and I cried forever.

anyways, I still think the Luc's death was the saddest, because like someone said. He was born/created just to hold a True Rune. He just wanted to be a normal human and be free of his curse whether that meant dying or living, he didnt care.

Then especially when Sarah walked up to him and died with him, but once I saw that ending screenshot, I lost it.

It was mentioned once and only once before, but Elza's death in S2 was pretty touching. Sure, you didnt know much about her backstory unless you looked it up, but it was still touching in the way that you knew Clive was hunting her down for 2 games, but you never knew what for. then finally it all comes to a hilt in Sajah Village. That was a nice moment. I have only done that quest once and it has been awhile.

the cruelest death was by far the Ryube Villager.

Luca and Troy were probably the most heroic in their own respects.

I have been trying to build up the strength to go back and play the first 3 for a couple years now and I think I might be able to do it soon. After reading this thread though...it is going to be tough!

There were a lot of good mentions in this thread but I think for me the most memorable death would have to be Ferid and Arshtat's deaths simply because they were just so tragic and at the same time kind of pointless IMO, and man my heart really went out to Georg after you find out what he had to do and the reason behind it. I can not even imagine how he must have felt inside after it happend .

To me Mathiu's is no question the best. The quiet manner in which he died, likely to the cheers of victory on the battlefield. Luca's was big and dramatic and showy, but that's in a way the flaw of it to me... it's almost too obviously "cool" to really be the most impactful.

Anytime Jowy dies. It's so satisfying to kill the traitor. Not that I've ever done it myself, since I've never actually finished S2, but anyone who lets Jowy live is a Communist pansy.

I'm kidding, of course...

... but only about the Communist part. You're still a pansy if you let the traitor live...

Luca Blight's death is definitely in my top five, mostly because of what he said as he was dying.
"It took hundreds to kill me but I killed humans by the thousands. I am sublime!!! I am the true face of evil!!!!"
Because it felt like even though you just killed him,he still gets that last laugh anyway. The guy was a complete bad @$$ and honestly,I kind of wished that he was the final boss at the end.

My second was Luc,now Luc was always my favorite character in the entire series. He went through a lot and it felt like in the third game you really got some insight on how its like to live as a rune bearer. Granted you saw that with McDohl, but it really got into it with characters like Geddoe Jimba and Luc. Then at the end just watching him go...and returning to Leknaat...it was kind of heart wrenching I think...to me at least.

Third is Ted,basing this off the first game and not knowing him at all from the 4th,because to me those were two completely different Ted's....that's just my own opinion but I digress...when he finally dies in the first game I couldn't help but feel bad yet grateful at the same time. He devoted his immortality to keeping the soul eater from Windy and he did that even when being controlled by another rune. He entrusted the rune to his best friend and still did everything in his power to stop Windy from having it. That and ordering the soul eater to eat your soul is pretty bad @$$....

Fourth is Jowy,if you let him die,I had a lot of mixed feelings about Jowy I won't lie about that...granted he was a traitor, but in a sense there was a whole lot of treachery going on in that game anyway. The guy was the hero's best friend from childhood and even through the war the two went through all kinds of things together. I mean if I had to honestly kill my best friend with my own two hands I don't think I'd be able to do it.

Fifth would have to be Sialeeds. Granted at the end she totally betrayed the hero, but her character was just so damn good...Plus her motives in the game were brilliant. She probably would have been an awesome politician or even a strategist I think....
