[Phase 4] Harmonia vs. Nameless Lands at Sanadia [Concluded]

Harmonian troops formed ranks as they encountered the invading Nameless Lands forces at a wide opening within the Sanadian forest. "Tell the wind mages to make sure we don't catch a wiff of them," Bishop Sai Fujiwara told a suboridinate as he gazed upon the ragtag Nameless Lands barbarians, holding their random weapons--some dressed in armor, and others nearly naked.

Seeing the Harmonians, Darkbeat's infantry numbering 4512 started marching forward, while ragingchaosgod's 5232 archers started shooting arrows over Darkbeat's infantry.

Sai Fujiwara gave orders to his cavalry numbering 7180, and Rocky's infantry numbering 9008. The Harmonian cavalry and infantry charged into the Nameless Land armies--the clamour of their armor echoing in the forests.

2616 of Sai Fujiwara's cavalry fell to Nameless Land arrows, while the cavalry managed to break into ragingchaosgod's ranks, defeating 3590 of them and injuring ragingchaosgod.

Meanwhile, Rocky defeated 4504 of Darkbeat's infantry in a fierce melee while losing 2256 themselves. Only 8 Nameless Lands infantrymen remained alive; they retreated quickly.

Seeing the Nameless Lands barbarians retreat, Sai Fujiwara declared victory for the first turn of battle. Cries of victory filled the battlefield.

Several days have passed and the warriors of the Nameless Lands have still not reemerged from the forests of Sanadia. Harmonians spies report that they have not yet retreated, but are still camped and well-supplied. Still, neither army makes any move.

The Harmonian forces are uncomfortable and impatient. It has rained for the past three days, and the cold northern climate has left them miserable and yearning for the warmth of Crystal Valley. The Harmonian Bishop, Sai Fujiwara, has become ill; he has not slept for days, and he is unable to taste his food. Irritable and impatient, Sai decides to finish the battle quickly by advancing the whole army led by his own unit. Dark Viktor objects, warning of ambushes in the forest.

"These barabarians are not capable of such strategy", replies Sai, with great disdain. "Look at how easily we defeated them before. They rely only on their raw might. Once we show them how powerless they truly are compared to us they will have no choice but to surrender." That said, Sai ordered to army to begin its march.

The Harmonian army advanced with ease, and the forest appeared to be abandoned. They must have retreated in fear of us, thought Sai. At that moment the air was filled with terrible yelling, and the 5222 calvary under Nanami-san fell upon Sai's unit. Sai took fright, and it was not until the enemy had begun slaying his men that he collected himself and ordered a counterattack.

Sai's personal unit contained some of the best soldiers in Harmonia, but their training could not make up for Nanami-san's momentum. Neither were they used to fighting in the forest, where their mobility was greatly hindered. The two units fought bravely, but the Harmonians defeated 2282 men, they had lost 2611 and were beginning to lose heart. Sai saw that his men were failing, and attempted to retreat, but Nanami-san pressed his advantage.

It was then that Dark Viktor's 7007 archers began their bombardment. Nanami-san was forced back, and Bishop Sai was able to break away. Then Lechium and his 3235 calvary attacked Dark Viktor's flank. Surprised, Dark Viktor split his forces to resist the attack and to ensure the Bishop's safety. Dark Viktor's men had excellent aim, and were able to defeat many of the calvary before they reached the archers. Lechium was able to defeat 1617 archers before his unit was annihilated, and Dark Viktor was able to rescue Sai.

Stunned, Bishop Sai ordered Rocky's 6752 infantry to take the rear guard while the Harmonian army retreated. Rocky's unit stayed steadfast, and prevented any men of the Nameless Lands to pass. Then Ley emerged from the Nameless Lands lines with his 7797 infantrymen behind him.

Ley pointed his blade at Rocky and shouted, "I am Ley of the Nameless Lands, royal guard to the Vaguelord Shrew. I have defeated the army of Falena. Who are you arrogant Harmonians to think that you can defeat us? We fight for justice while you spread your false faith as your excuse to control the land! You enslave other cultures and live lives of luxury while they suffer for it! We have come to free the people of Sanadia, and we will not be stopped by a idiot lacky like you!"

Furious, Rocky ordered his men to charge Ley, but Ley's soldiers were well-trained in defense, and Rocky's men fell by the thousands in their onslaught. As he saw his men fall in vain, Rocky realized that the Nameless Lands Army had slipped by and had begun harrassing the rear of the main army. Horrified, Rocky realized his error and retreated shame-faced. He had lost 3898 men, while Ley had lost only 1688.

When Harmonia had collected itself Sai requested a list of the losses. In addition to the large number of soldiers lost, the Nameless Lands had taken several key points, included a fortress which now left the Harmonians' flank exposed. Cursing his folly, Sai immediately began formulating a counterattack. The decisive battle at Sanadia had yet to come.

The Bishop Sai Fujiwara had little time to plan as the Nameless Lands army had reached the Harmonian camp. Desperate, but seeing a chance for victory, Sai ordered Ranadiel to meet the enemy while Suikojowy went to retake the key base the Nameless Lands had captured. The two immediately set to their duties.

Ranadiel gathered his 7066 Calvary and set out to push back the enemy. Charging from the gates, the men saw before them the full Nameless Lands army led by the Vaguelord Shrew and his 14734 archers. The Harmonians refused to take fright and charged into the enemy lines even as their horses dropped by the thousands under the rain of arrows. They managed to slay 3533 of the enemy before the last succmbed to the archers. Ranadiel made his escape, knowing that though his men were lost he had bought time for Suikojowy to seize the base.

At the base, Ley's remaining 6109 men had begun to reinforce the walls and prepare for combat. They were shocked when Suikojowy's 5525 cavalry appeared on the horizon. Ley ordered the men to form a defensive line, but they were no match for the lightning quick cavalry. His defense broken, Ley ordered his men to withdraw, cutting his losses to 2762 troops. The Harmonians cheered as they entered the base, having not lost a man.

The shocked Shrew realized that without the base his army would become overextended and vulnerable to attack. He immediately ordered a general retreat. Bishop Sai seized the opportunity to chase the Nameless Lands from the battlefield and ordered his men forward, with Iakopa leading his 7023 archers as the vanguard. As they approached they encountered the weakened force of 2940 Cavalry under Nanami-san and set upon them. The Nameless Lands men fought with little of the morale they had shown earlier and only managed to defeat 1470 Harmonians before they had all perished. Eager for victory, the Harmonians continued to harrass the Nameless Lands army until they reached the mountain border. Satisfied, Bishop Sai Fujiwara pulled his men back and began to celebrate their vicotry.
