Hmmn, nobody else saw this? Well, I suppose it isn't the biggest news compared to some other games coming out right now... I likely wouldn't have noticed this if someone else who watches these things hadn't mentioned it to me. Anyway:
Quote: |
KOEI, recognized worldwide as the premier brand of strategy and action games, today announced Nobunaga’s Ambition®: Rise to Power, an epic historical simulation from legendary game producer Kou Shibusawa. The game is scheduled to ship to North American retailers beginning February 5, 2008, exclusively for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. |
Quote fetched from KOEI Corporation's website here.
North America hasn't had one of these games for quite some time, so this is definitely good news. Granted, I like Romance of the Three Kingdoms a bit more, but this is certainly something I'll be looking at getting. These kinds of games aren't really the biggest hits in North America (Hence, we only get console RTK games, and never with the Power Up Kit included), but it's nice to see them still be released. Even if this one has a bit of dust on it (It's from 2004-2005 in Japan if I remember. Not exactly the newest)
Other thoughts? I would imagine that a few other people here would be interested in this. I can probably think of at least one person who will be desperately hoping for a PAL European release... |

Wow!
Why the Playstation 2 though? Wouldn't it make more sense for an English PC version? |

I spotted this bit of news yesterday, which was pleasant. After mulling over the Gamecity website and watching trailers for the game over the past few years, I'm glad to see it'll be getting a release in the west. I would enjoy a PAL release, but I don't have a problem with getting the game imported from the states.
I wonder what spurred the decision to release this now? I can't imagine there being a considerable profit gained from releasing this on the PS2 at this point. Maybe I'm underestimating the popularity of Koei games? I'm not complaining though. _________________

I see I now have one more reason to continue playing with my PS2. I'm really not surprised that its on the PS2 and not the PC or the PS3. I don;t even think KOEI has made any sort of release in NA of their titles for the PC. I might be mistaken, but I've always seen KOEI games on a console.
Now, I can finally enjoy conquering Japan as Nobunaga without all the devil-worship and pacts with hell to confuse things. _________________

Yeah. Like I said, KOEI games tend to only be on consoles for North America (and everywhere outside of Asia, for the most part). They only want to spend so much effort on the games, after all, because we're a smaller market for some of these things. I suppose they don't think it's worth the effort to put the games out on multiple systems or to port over the bonus material contained in the Power Up Kits. And it probably is sound business, since the way the market is I don't think the profit would be too great. I suppose technically DW4 was released for PC via download or something, but that's about it. I don't think that was successful enough for them to repeat the effort.
Although the Power Up Kits are fantastic. One time, somebody used one of those to run an automated version of a large scale RTK simulation, with everybody's characters around, along with every NPC still alive at the starting date. Can't do that with a regular version.
At any rate, there's nice added variety to the settings available for the types of games Koei makes. Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors are good for the peasant-slaughtering action game, the Kessen series includes both the Three Kingdoms and Japanese Warring States for real time strategy, and now you have that in turn based strategy as well. I suspect they figured they have the base for this because of their other games and the fact that those do at least reasonably well (or incredibly well, depending on which one). |

Hey, this is pretty cool news. The only problem is that I don't really like Nobunaga's Ambition games. |

Whoa, finally. At least I'd still a few more PS2 games to look forward to before moving on to the next gen. |

Gotta say, I've always wanted to get to play a Nobunaga's Ambition game. It's great to see that I might finally be getting the chance once this releases. _________________

I sense that hours of my life will be lost from productive work.
Sweet! This looks like it'll keep me amused for hours on end. At least like Thief, I'll have something to do with my PS2 before they opt to stop making games for it. _________________ Why don't you drop by the Seraphim Garden and spend your Cabal Nights with me? |

Anyone know why Nobunaga's Ambition 12: Kakushin isn't the game being released? I thought they improved on 11's 3D battle system by scrapping it. |

Is there one in English?
This is awesome news. I've never played a Nobunaga's Ambition game apart from the first one for the NES, and I must've wasted about a whole year of my life playing it. And I don't mean I only played it for a year. I played it enough to total a year's worth of hours. _________________

There isn't an English one yet I don't think, the one I gave you is for when it was released in Japan. |

My thoughts exactly. I've been looking forward to play just one Nobunaga's Ambition game, and now I can finally do so. I'll definitely get a copy once the game is released. |
