What would be the best way for Suikoden VI to sell the most? Release it on DS, like Square Enix is doing with Dragon Quest IX, or at least PSP, following Suikoden I & II. The Monster Hunter games have shown that even PSP games can become hits.

This would make the most sense IMHO. The DS is owned by tons of people all over the world. Also, the graphics are nowhere near as demanding on a handheld, so Konami could probably make VI without it having a 'slightly dated' look.

It would also help if they advertise a bit more (in the US) and avoid releasing VI right around the same time as other, more well known RPG-type games.

Since Suikoden VI will be coming out for the PS3 I see it actually selling less than what the previous titles in the series sold. Even with the oversaturation of PS2 consoles of the past couple years the series has never been a huge seller. It's sold good enough for Konami to continue making them and those sales numbers were pretty much due to the die-hard fans of the game.

Even if the game comes out in 2008 with the PS3 into the second year of its lifespan I still don't see the console's numbers anywhere near the PS2's. Plus, how many here will actually make that leap of a minimum of 600 dollars to get a PS3 for one game. Some of us have the disposable income to do so, but I think more do not. I can see Suikoden VI selling less than 200,000 units, but with advertising beyond magazine ads over 200,000 and around 300,000 units a possibility. Really, the only way Konami will ever give this title the push it needs is to marry the series engaging storyline with some eye-candy. It's worked for the Final Fantasy games of the past 5 years.

Amen to that. I totally agree.

By using my obscenely powerful powers of speculation, I’d say it would be around the 150-200 thousand mark. I mean Suikoden V has provided a few breaths to resuscitate the series after Suikoden IV so maniacally shoved the series off overboard the S.S. dauntless, I’d sya the 150-200 would be a very good guess.

Yeah, but what market are these predictions for? Is it Japan? Worldwide? North America? Finland?

I would hazard a guess that if Suikoden VI is released for the Wii, it could reach 500,000 copies worldwide. If it comes to PS3, I would guess 300,000 copies worldwide. Other ways to reach 500,000 copies worldwide could be a multiplatform release or the previously referred handheld release. It seems that Konami is waiting for the new consoles to get a bigger install base.

My prediction is higher sales than the fifth. Konami has been keeping the fans busy in Japan with digital and printed comics. This, in my opinion, is a form of an ongoing advertisement effort by Konami. Now for the rest of the world, I don't expect high sales. Konami has to invest more on ads and avoid releasing the game on the same time as another hit. Also, having the game reviewed a week or two prior to release by an online game reviewer would definitely boost its sales.
Although unlikely to happen, Konami could improve the sales by having an official English website similar to Botaki/Lunar Knights.

Since when ever i see a suikoden game not only does it never get advertised but it doesnt move that far outside the fan base. I'd say depending on graphics it would do slightly better then 5 but not by much.

One problem suikoden has in my opinion even though i personaly love the series is that each and every game is connected and that it really is important to know something about the other games before you get into the series. and it is a pain to find suikodens 1-3 especially 1 and 2.

Not only that but if you dont buy the game within the 1st few months i've noticed with 4 and 5 (I got into the series after 3 and now have all the games) that stores do not keep the games on the shelves for very long. Which really annoyed me when i finnaly decided to actually go out and get 5 it was no longer in stores and i had to go to a local pawnshop that specialises in games.

Well sales are going to be higher I think if they release it late next year or 2009, because first if they release it on PS3 now or early 2008, then it would only sell less because a lot of good PS3 games are coming out on 2008, and theres is not much PS3 consoles right now because of one thing, there is no good games being released yet, but once they release good games, then people gonna start buying PS3s. Plus PS3 will also have a price reduction this coming December.
